Abstract This study consists of a detailed analysis of the clinical, hemodynamic, surgical and pathologic findings of 23 children with congenital mitral stenosis and 99 additional cases from the literature. These cases were grouped into three major pathologic complexes: (1) the isolated form; (2) the form associated with other obstructive left-sided ...

The mitral valve annulus is a complex structure that is an integral part of the mitral valve apparatus. The annulus plays an active role in mitral valve leaflet coaptation and in left atrial and ventricular function. The annulus is susceptible to disease processes that are distinct from those that affect the mitral valve leaflets.

Although the fact that mitral stenosis may cause hemoptysis long has been recognized, little emphasis apparently has been placed on its occurrence or prognostic significance. Indeed, there is a paucity of literature on this subject. Stewart, 1 in 1934, reported three cases with autopsy findings.

Nitroprusside and Mitral Stenosis
Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1980The cardiovascular effects of an intravenous nitroprusside infusion were evaluated intraoperatively in seven patients with pure mitral stenosis and seven patients with predominant mitral stenosis. Prior to therapy the adverse hemodynamic consequences of light anesthesia and surgical stimulation were evident in all patients: systemic and/or pulmonary ...

COMMISSUROTOMY IN MITRAL STENOSIS
Archives of Surgery, 1951SINCE March 31, 1950, at this hospital 19 patients have been accepted for surgical treatment of the mitral valve. The word "commissurotomy" in the title indicates that of the several operative procedures described or recommended during the past few years, that of Bailey and his associates 1 has appeared to be the most practical. This method involves an
