The Ballistocardiogram in Mitral Stenosis [PDF]
The ballistocardiograms of 13 of 14 patients with "pure" mitral stenosis were found to show acharacteristic late diastolic and early systolic deformity. The deformity consists of a footward wave which precedes the I wave, often resulting in "doubling" of the I, or fusion with the I, producing a wide, deformed wave.

Periprocedural hemodynamic assessment of percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty [PDF]
Besides the standart echcardiografic parameters for mitral stenosis assessment it is necessary to inquire the hemodynamic characteristics as well. The following article describes and illustrates step-by-step the invasive parameters and their significance

Treatment of mitral stenosis [PDF]
In patients with mitral stenosis the need for therapeutic intervention can be assessed by clinical and non-invasive data. Mitral valve replacement is indicated when marked dyspnoea on mild exertion, dyspnoea at rest or pulmonary oedema, haemoptysis, atrial fibrillation, recurrent systemic emboli or right ventricular failure occur in a patient with a ...

How to assess mitral stenosis by echo - A step-by-step approach
Rheumatic mitral stenosis is the commonest valvular heart disease in developing countries. Other causes include congenital abnormalities and degenerative mitral valve disease.

Commissurotomy for Mitral Stenosis [PDF]
The term "mitral commissurotomy" has been suggested to designate a procedure in which the individual anatomic leaflets of the stenotic mitral valve are surgically separated. By incising the angles or commissures of the mitral slit ("fish-mouth") a considerable degree of valve function can be re-established without the production of additional ...

Tissue Doppler assessment of left ventricular diastolic function in rheumatic mitral stenosis
Background: Left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions are reported to be altered in mitral stenosis. Although conventional Doppler ultrasound recording of transmitral flow is used in the assessment of left ventricular diastolic function, yet, in ...

The Role of 2D and 3D Echo in Mitral Stenosis
Mitral stenosis is an important cause of heart valve disease globally. Echocardiography is the main imaging modality used to diagnose and assess the severity and hemodynamic consequences of mitral stenosis as well as valve morphology.

Life-threatening hemoptysis following mitral valvuloplasty for rheumatic mitral stenosis
Background: Massive hemoptysis is a rare complication of rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Its recurrence following successful initial treatment of the stenosis has not, to our knowledge, been described.
