Transcatheter direct mitral valve annuloplasty: a brief review
EuroIntervention, 2015Research and development of percutaneous therapy for mitral regurgitation (MR) began over a decade ago with concepts based on coronary sinus annuloplasty which had the potential to mimic established surgical procedures. While at the present time leaflet repair with the MitraClip has become the most frequently used device approach, several devices that ...

Mitral valve replacement versus annuloplasty for treating severe functional mitral regurgitation
General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2013To improve the clinical outcome of patients with severe functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) associated with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM), we compared the therapeutic efficacy of mitral annuloplasty (MAP) with that of mitral valve replacement (MVR).In a retrospective observation 63 consecutive patients underwent mitral valve surgery for severe ICM ...

Mitral valve repair for functional mitral regurgitation: is annuloplasty alone enough?
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2010To outline indications and contraindications to mitral valve surgery in the clinical context of dilated cardiomyopathy and the surgical principles to follow in performing an undersized annuloplasty. Moreover, we will describe the characteristics of the patients for whom an annuloplasty alone is unlikely to provide an effective result and for whom ...

Mitral Valve Replacement in Calcified Annulus Following Ring Annuloplasty
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2008We present a patient with persistent severe hemolysis following mitral valve repair which resolved after valve replacement with bioprosthesis. The posterior portion of the annuloplasty ring was retained due to severe calcifications of the posterior mitral valve annulus. All chordae were preserved to avoid disruption of the mitral annulus.

Rheumatic Mitral Valve Annuloplasty with Polytetrafluoroethylene Ring
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2000Mitral valve annuloplasty was performed using a supporting strip or ring of polytetrafluoroethylene cut from a vascular graft. From October 1995 to September 1997, this material was used in 42 patients (mean age, 17.5 ± 5.9 years) with rheumatic mitral valve disease.

Active Annuloplasty System for Mitral Valve Insufficiency
2008Active materials are capable of responding in a controlled way to different external physical or chemical stimuli by changing some of their properties. These materials can be used to design and develop sensors, actuators and multifunctional systems with a large number of applications for developing medical devices.
