Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral insufficiency
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1991Over a 5-year period, 1,292 patients had operation on their native mitral valves. Ischemia was the cause of mitral insufficiency in 84 patients (6.5%). Sixty-five patients (77.4%) had mitral valve repair. Mean age was 66 +/- 10 years; 35 patients (53.8%) were women.

Early experience with mitral valve reconstruction for mitral insufficiency
The American Journal of Surgery, 1991Mitral valve repair for mitral regurgitation has been reported to have more favorable early and late results than mitral valve replacement. From July 1985 through July 1990, 63 patients have undergone valve repair at Good Samaritan Hospital. Twenty-two men and 41 women whose ages ranged from 34 to 81 years (mean 67.9 years) were treated.
