Functional Mitral Valve Insufficiency
2013The term “ischemic mitral valve insufficiency” often refers to post-infarction mitral valve insufficiency following localized deformation of the ventricular chamber and the consequent distortion of the mitral tensor apparatus.

Mitral valve repair for mitral insufficiency
European Heart Journal, 1991Degenerative mitral valve disease has become the major cause of mitral regurgitation in North America; it is incumbent on surgeons to know repair techniques and to document their results. Fortunately, improvements in myocardial protection have been concurrent with the evolution of mitral valve repair in our country.

Mitral valve reconstruction for mitral insufficiency
Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, 1997Mitral valve reconstruction is now the procedure of choice for many mitral regurgitant lesions. Early enthusiasm and technical advances in plastic reconstruction of the mitral valve were overshadowed by the development of prosthetic and bioprosthetic valves. With long-term follow-up studies came the realization that the complication rates of prosthetic

Review of mitral valve insufficiency: repair or replacement.
Journal of Thoracic Disease, 2014Mitral valve (MV) dysfunction is the second-most common clinically significant form of valvular defect in adults. MV regurgitation occurs with the increasing frequency of degenerative changes of the aging process.

Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral insufficiency
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1991Over a 5-year period, 1,292 patients had operation on their native mitral valves. Ischemia was the cause of mitral insufficiency in 84 patients (6.5%). Sixty-five patients (77.4%) had mitral valve repair. Mean age was 66 +/- 10 years; 35 patients (53.8%) were women.

Mitral valve repair for significant mitral insufficiency
American Heart Journal, 1978There has been skepticism since the early days of open heart surgery that good long-term or even short-term results were possible with repair of pure mitral insufficiency. The authors report 145 patients in whom a markedly insufficient mitral valve was repaired 6 months to 17 years previously and another 55 patients in whom repair of the insufficient ...

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is the most prevalent form of valvular heart disease. Transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) and transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) have recently emerged as alternatives to open heart surgical repair or replacement. However, studies on the comparative outcomes of TMVr and TMVR are limited.
