Mitral Valve Surgery in Neonates, Infants and Children: Surgical Approach, Outcomes, & Predictors.
Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2020The surgical treatment of mitral disease in pediatrics is challenging. Managing diversity in patient anatomy, growth, and the need for long term anticoagulation require tradeoffs between imperfect solutions.

Early experience with mitral valve reconstruction for mitral insufficiency
The American Journal of Surgery, 1991Mitral valve repair for mitral regurgitation has been reported to have more favorable early and late results than mitral valve replacement. From July 1985 through July 1990, 63 patients have undergone valve repair at Good Samaritan Hospital. Twenty-two men and 41 women whose ages ranged from 34 to 81 years (mean 67.9 years) were treated.

Spring Valve for Mitral Insufficiency
A.M.A. Archives of Surgery, 1955The surgical attack upon acquired heart disease has progressed at a rapid pace since the advent of mitral commissurotomy in 1949. 1 The outstanding valvular defect, which still is unsolved from a surgical standpoint, is mitral insufficiency. Bailey 2 found at operation that 21.7% of patients operated upon for mitral stenosis had a significant amount of

Myxomatous Transformation of the Mitral Valve Producing Mitral Insufficiency
American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1970Mitral regurgitation in children is most commonly associated with chronic rheumatic heart disease, and a number of congenital cardiac lesions may produce a similar lesion. Not uncommonly, a diagnostic problem arises in the older child with classical findings of mitral regurgitation without a history of rheumatic fever.

BACKGROUND Oxidative stress is reportedly associated with several cardiovascular diseases. The antioxidant ability of high density lipoprotein (HDL) is, at least in part, attributable to the pleiotropic serum paraoxonase (PON1).

MUSCULAR INSUFFICIENCY OF THE MITRAL VALVE.
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1902CLINICAL HISTORY OF THE ACUTE FORM. The muscular mitral insufficiencies may present themselves in two forms: first, acute; second, chronic. The acute cases present themselves during the course of those diseases which affect the myocardium. These are diphtheria, scarlet fever, typhoid, acute articular rheumatism, and in general, the acute infections ...

Pulmonary sequestration presenting as mitral valve insufficiency
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1998Although pulmonary sequestrations commonly present with infectious complications, problems relating to high blood flow through the lesion are rarely apparent. A 4-year-old girl was referred for cardiac catheterization and evaluation for mitral valve surgery.

The hammock mitral valve is a rare congenital abnormality resulting in mitral regurgitation or stenosis, with incidences ranging from 0% to 12% in pediatric surgical series. It is difficult to correct this condition by reconstructive techniques. We describe here an alone hammock valve without any cardiac malformation in a five-year-old patient who ...
