Mitral Valve Insufficiency: Suspension of the Posterior Leaflet to the Mitral Annuloplasty Ring
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2008Mitral valve insufficiency in rheumatic heart disease is often due to retracted posterior chordae and posterior leaflet thickening. Several surgical repair techniques have been described, but sometimes an acceptable coaptation of the mitral leaflets can not be achieved.

Abstract Surgical correction of mitral stenosis has become an accepted procedure in selected cases. This has made it important to diagnose preoperatively in such cases the degree of competence of the mitral valve as well as the degree of stenosis. At present our tools for diagnosing significant mitral insufficiency in patients with rheumatic mitral ...

Determining the Severity of Mitral Valve Insufficiency
2013Determining the severity of regurgitation is perhaps the most delicate aspect of the diagnosis: in severe insufficiency it is the sine qua non condition when considering surgical intervention. Furthermore, whatever the etiology, the presence of severe mitral valve insufficiency causes an increase in mortality even in asymptomatic patients with normal ...

Multiple-leaflet mitral valve as a rare cause of congenital mitral insufficiency
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1997A rare case of congenital mitral insufficiency characterized by six well-demarcated leaflets of mitral valve and annular dilatation is reported. At operation, the mitral valve was successfully repaired by resection of the posterior median leaflet with subsequent annular plication, closure of unusual valvular tissue divisions, and ring annuloplasty.

[Repair in rheumatic mitral valve insufficiency].
Giornale italiano di cardiologia, 1997Emerging evidence indicates that etiology plays an essential role in the results of mitral valve repair. In this study, we examined the long-term performance of this procedure in 61 consecutive patients with pure rheumatic mitral insufficiency.Patient ages ranged from 4 to 74 years (mean: 51.7 +/- 16).

Initial diastolic indentation of the mitral valve in aortic insufficiency
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1982AbstractAn abnormal diastolic indentation of the mitral valve has been noted on short‐axis two‐dimensional echocardiograms in patients with aortic insufficiency. In order to assess the clinical usefulness of this finding, we reviewed the echocardiograms of 18 patients with this lesion who had undergone cineaortography.

Economic impact of mitral valve plasty versus replacement for mitral valve insufficiency.
The Journal of cardiovascular surgery, 2003The principal techniques for surgical correction of mitral valve regurgitation (MR) were compared, with emphasis on the economic impact. In a prospective non-randomized study 225 patients undergoing mitral valve repair were analyzed, 75 had mitral valve plasty (MVP) and 150 had mitral valve replacement (MVR).

Catheter-Based Repair of Mitral Valve Insufficiency
2013Catheter-based percutaneous edge-to-edge repair using the MitraClip device (Abbott Vascular; Abbott Park, IL, USA) is a well-established, effective, and safe procedure that can be utilized in selected patients with mitral regurgitation (MR). The procedure mimics Alfieri’s surgical technique, bringing the anterior and posterior leaflets together from ...
