Is mitral valve repair superior to replacement for chronic ischemic mitral regurgitation with left ventricular dysfunction?

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2010
Background This study was undertaken to compare mitral valve repair and replacement as treatments for ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD).

Can complex mitral valve repair be performed with robotics? An institution's experience utilizing a dedicated team approach in 500 patients.

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2019
OBJECTIVES The full potential of robotics has not been achieved in terms of addressing the most challenging mitral valve (MV) cases. We outline our technique and report our early results with totally endoscopic robotic MV repair in a wide range of ...

Indirect mitral annuloplasty in patients with reduced or preserved ejection fraction: A real‐world, single‐centre experience

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims We aim to evaluate the real‐world effectiveness and safety of the Carillon Mitral Contour System (CMCS) for indirect annuloplasty in patients with heart failure (HF) and secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR). Methods and results This was a single‐centre retrospective study of 204 consecutive patients (age 83 ± 6 years, 68% female, 72 ...

Analysis of left ventricular behaviour in diastole by means of finite element method [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The human left ventricle in diastole can be modelled as a passive structure with incremental internal pressure change being considered as the load. Recent developments in engineering stress analysis provide techniques for predicting the behaviour of ...

Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 2007
Nonsurgical treatment of clinically important mitral regurgitation (MR) has evolved tremendously over the past decade. Recent studies of percutaneous mitral valve repair procedures have shown that less invasive procedures are safe and can be effective in selected patients. MitraClip has been studied most extensively.

Mitral valve repair for myxomatous degeneration and prolapse of the mitral valve

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1989
From 1984 to 1988, 129 mitral valve reconstructions were done for primary pure mitral regurgitation. Sixty-two (48%) were done for myxomatous degeneration and prolapse of the mitral valve. Anterior leaflet resection was performed in seven patients, posterior leaflet resection in 46, anteroposterior resection in four; five patients received only a ring ...

Right ventricular reserve post mitral valve repair is associated with heart failure hospitalization

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, 2020
Right ventricular impairment is a predictor of cardiovascular outcomes in patients with degenerative mitral regurgitation. However, the time course of right ventricular functional changes post-surgical mitral valve repair remains largely unknown. Herein,

Employment of artificial intelligence for an unbiased evaluation regarding the recovery of right ventricular function after mitral valve transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Impact of mitral transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair (M‐TEER) on left and right heart function. IQR, interquartile range; LA, left atrial; RVEF, right ventricular ejection fraction; sPAP, systolic pulmonary artery pressure; TAPSE, tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion. Abstract Aims Long‐standing severe mitral regurgitation (MR) leads to left atrial

Prognostic value of NT‐proBNP in patients with primary mitral regurgitation undergoing transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
In the PRIME‐MR study, patients with higher N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) tertiles more frequently reached death or heart failure hospitalization (HFH) within 3 years. Log‐transformed NT‐proBNP levels independently predicted the primary endpoint (adjusted hazard ratio 1.17, 95% confidence interval 1.07–1.28; p < 0.001).
