SUMMARY The cases of 2 children with severe mitral insufficiency have been presented with emphasis on the pathologic physiology and surgical treatment. The Starr-Edwards prosthesis was used to totally replace the diseased mitral valve in each instance.

We have developed a unique method for pre‐clinical heart valve prostheses evaluation of calcification propensity.
