Mitral Valve Surgery for Rheumatic Lesions in Young Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: The appropriateness of rheumatic mitral valve repair remains controversial due to the risks of recurrent mitral dysfunction and need for reoperation.

Modeling the Mitral Valve [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This work is concerned with modeling and simulation of the mitral valve, one of the four valves in the human heart. The valve is composed of leaflets, the free edges of which are supported by a system of chordae, which themselves are anchored to the papillary muscles inside the left ventricle.

Noradrenergic and cholinergic innervation of the normal human heart and changes associated with cardiomyopathy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Autonomic nerves are crucial in cardiac function and pathology. However, data on the distribution of cholinergic and noradrenergic nerves in normal and pathologic human hearts is lacking. Nonfailing donor hearts were pressure‐perfusion fixed, imaged, and dissected. Left ventricular cardiomyopathy samples were also obtained.

Four Cases of Valvular Diseases Due to Nonpenetrating Cardiac Trauma [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
During the past 15 years we have managed four patients who suffered isolated valvular lesions from blunt chest trauma. Three patients were injured intraffic accidents and another fell from a height.

Neural collaborative filtering for unsupervised mitral valve segmentation in echocardiography [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The segmentation of the mitral valve annulus and leaflets specifies a crucial first step to establish a machine learning pipeline that can support physicians in performing multiple tasks, e.g.\ diagnosis of mitral valve diseases, surgical planning, and intraoperative procedures.

Flexible and Comprehensive Patient-Specific Mitral Valve Silicone Models with Chordae Tendinae Made From 3D-Printable Molds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Given the multitude of challenges surgeons face during mitral valve repair surgery, they should have a high confidence in handling of instruments and in the application of surgical techniques before they enter the operating room. Unfortunately, opportunities for surgical training of minimally-invasive repair are very limited, leading to a situation ...

Anticoagulation intensity and outcomes among southeast‐Asians with moderate‐to‐severe mitral valve stenosis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Objective To determine the optimal anticoagulation intensity of warfarin in a South‐East Asian population with moderate‐to‐severe rheumatic mitral stenosis. Methods A multicentre, retrospective study examined patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis who had not undergone valve replacement or repair and required long‐term warfarin therapy at two ...

Management of tricuspid regurgitation in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement for rheumatic mitral valve diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: In mitral valve diseases associated with long standing pulmonary hypertension,Tricuspid annulus dilates and fails to shorten during systole leading to Tricuspid regurgitation.Tricuspid regurgitation contributes to both the morbidity and ...

Emergent Cardiac Surgery After Transcatheter Structural Heart Procedures: Narrative Review

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Transcatheter structural heart procedures have become standard therapy for elderly patients with high surgical risk. Over time, these procedures have significantly increased worldwide, accompanied by a concomitant reduction of major complications, including those requiring emergent cardiac surgery (ECS).

Cardiac Surgery in Octogenarians; Peri-Operative Outcome and Long-Term Results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
AIMS: Because the elderly are increasingly referred for operation, we reviewed the results of cardiac surgery in patients of 80 years or older. METHODS AND RESULTS: Records of 182 consecutive octogenarians who had had cardiac operations between 1992 and ...
