Mitral valve stenosis

2021
Abstract Mitral stenosis is an important valvular lesion that when encountered both in the developing world and the developed world requires accurate assessment. The mitral valve area is the key parameter that should be used to assess severity.

Repair for Congenital Mitral Valve Stenosis

Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery: Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual, 2018
We report the techniques and long-term outcome of mitral valve (MV) repair to correct congenital mitral stenosis in children. Between 1986 and 2014, 137 children (mean age 4.1 ± 5.0, range 1 month-16.8 years) underwent repair of congenital mitral stenosis (CMS). In 48 patients, CMS is involved in Shone's anomaly.

Papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve associated with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis

The Japanese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2005
With the advent of echocardiography, diagnosis of papillary fibroelastoma in living patients has been made possible, yet papillary fibroelastoma found in the living remains a very rare cardiac tumor. We report a case of papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis.

Mitral Valve Repair for Congenital Mitral Valve Stenosis in the Pediatric Population

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2010
Mitral valve repair is the preferred approach for congenital mitral valve stenosis in children. However, repairs in this population remain challenging. From 2001 to 2009, mitral valve repair was attempted in 20 consecutive congenital mitral valve stenosis patients.

Combined mitral valve stenosis and tricuspid valve stenosis: Morphologic observations after mitral and tricuspid valve replacements or mitral replacement and tricuspid valve commissurotomy

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1986
Abstract Among patients in the USA studied at necropsy with fatal valvular heart disease, the most frequent single valve lesion is aortic stenosis (29%), next mitral stenosis (19%), followed by pure aortic regurgitation (12%) and mitral regurgitation (10%).

Ultrasoundcardiography in mitral valve stenosis∗

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1967
Abstract In our experience the ultrasoundcardiogram from the anterior mitral leaflet may be used for: 1. 1. Estimating the degree of mitral stenosis and thus deciding whether commissurotomy is indicated or not. 2. 2. Estimating the degree of rigidity in the mitral valve and in this manner selecting cases for open heart surgery. 3.

Mitral valve resistance as a hemodynamic indicator in mitral stenosis

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1992
Variability of the valve area calculated by the Gorlin formula has been noted in bioprosthetic and aortic valves, but few data are available for native stenotic mitral valves. Valve resistance has been proposed as an alternative hemodynamic indicator; however, its value in mitral stenosis has not been assessed.

Functional mitral stenosis following mitral valve repair

Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2017
This review summarizes the evidence describing functional mitral stenosis (MS) following surgical mitral valve repair.Functional MS is an evolving concept and has been implicated in the repair of functional and organic mitral regurgitation. Following repair of functional mitral regurgitation, an elevation in peak transmitral gradient and pulmonary ...

Transcatheter Therapy for Mitral Valve Stenosis

Interventional Cardiology Clinics
Mitral valve stenosis remains highly prevalent among the US population although with dramatically shifting demographics. The significance of rheumatic mitral disease in developing nations persists, despite improvements in preventative measures and early detection, and its presence in developed countries is still evident as observed through ...

Development of Mitral Stenosis After Mitral Valve Repair: Importance of Mitral Valve Area

Canadian Journal of Cardiology, 2017
The development of mitral stenosis (MS) is not uncommon after mitral valve (MV) repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR), but the significance of MS in this setting has not been defined. We prospectively studied 110 such patients who underwent supine bicycle exercise testing to assess intracardiac hemodynamics at rest and at peak exercise.
