Severe Preeclampsia Complicating Mitral Valve Stenosis

Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, 1998
Background and ObjectivesWe present a report of a parturient with severe mitral valve stenosis diagnosed during a previous pregnancy who developed severe preeclampsia.MethodsLabor and subsequent abdominal delivery were managed with epidural analgesia and anesthesia. The clinical management was guided by invasive hemodynamic monitoring, including a flow-

Degenerative mitral valve stenosis: Diagnosis and management

Echocardiography, 2019
AbstractMitral stenosis (MS) is a common valvular disease characterized by narrowing of the mitral valve orifice and a reduction in mitral valve area (MVA). While rheumatic MS (RMS) is frequently encountered in young individuals in developing countries, degenerative MS (DMS) is seen in the elderly in developed countries and its prevalence is increasing.

Mitral valve stenosis in three cats

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1993
ABSTRACTTwo‐dimensional and M‐mode echocardiography were used to diagnose mitral stenosis in two cats with heart failure. This appeared to be related to mitral valve complex malformation. Ultrasound findings included thickened mitral valve leaflets with inhibited mobility, reduced mitral valve orifice size, abnormal upward (cranial) motion of the ...

Native Mitral Stenosis Treated With Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2016
Surgical treatment of mitral stenosis with extreme calcification remains a challenge. Recently, the balloon-expandable valve prosthesis, anchored by radial force, offers a new option for these patients. We present 2 cases of transcatheter mitral valve replacement in patients with severe native mitral valve stenosis and annular calcification deemed too ...

Severe bioprosthetic mitral valve stenosis in pregnancy

General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2013
A 21-year-old woman in the 16th week of pregnancy was admitted due to acute presentation of severe exertional dyspnea. She had undergone mitral valve replacement (MVR) with bioprosthetic valve for infective endocarditis 2 years ago. She developed congestive heart failure from mitral bioprosthetic valve stenosis due to early structural valve ...

Supernumerary Mitral Valve Producing Subaortic Stenosis

Chest, 1981
A ten-year-old girl with severe subaortic stenosis was found to have relatively mature valvular endocardial cushion tissue (fibromyxomatous sheets with a chorda tendinea attached to a left ventricular papillary muscle) immediately beneath the aortic valve.

Patient with Concomitant Mitral Valve Stenosis

2017
Mitral stenosis is a significant risk factor for stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation and serves as an indication for anticoagulation regardless of the presence of other traditional stroke risk factors. The preferred oral anticoagulant in patients with atrial fibrillation and mitral stenosis is warfarin.

Mitral Valve Replacement for Mitral Stenosis Secondary to Hunter’s Syndrome

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2005
Hunter's syndrome is a rare, X-linked recessive, mucopolysaccharidosis. Survival into adulthood is uncommon. Mitral valve disease, predominantly regurgitation, has been reported in these patients. We have found no reports of mitral valve replacement for mitral stenosis secondary to Hunter's syndrome in the English literature.

The posterior mitral valve echo and the echocardiographic diagnosis of mitral stenosis

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1972
Abstract The detection of mitral stenosis has been a classic application of echocardiography. The technique utilizes the recording of an echo from the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve. A reduced diastolic slope is the principal criterion for the diagnosis of mitral stenosis.

Heart valve disease (mitral valve disease): mitral stenosis

2016
The most common cause of mitral stenosis (MS) is rheumatic fever followed by degenerative MS. Echocardiography is the key method to diagnose and evaluate MS. Echocardiographic findings are closely related to aetiology. In rheumatic disease echocardiography shows thickening of leaflet tips with restricted opening caused by commissural fusion resulting ...
