Mitral valve A wave and mitral stenosis
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1981AbstractWe examined M‐mode echocardiograms on 35 patients with catheterization‐proven mitral stenosis and normal sinus rhythm to determine whether the presence or absence of an A wave on the mitral echogram predicted mild versus severe mitral stenosis. Mitral valve area (MVA) was determined by the Gorlin formula. Presence of a mitral A wave was defined

MITRAL VALVE STENOSIS IN THE ELDERLY
Age and Ageing, 1985Forty-seven elderly patients (aged 70-95 years) with mitral stenosis (MS) were studied. The initial presentation in 77% of patients was in the postretirement age and 55% were diagnosed after the age of 70 years. A history of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) was given by 43% of all patients.

Mitral Valve Prolapse in Rheumatic Mitral Stenosis
Chest, 1977Four adult women with histories of rheumatic fever and clinical findings of mitral stenosis and regurgitation had echocardiograms demonstrating moderately severe mitral stenosis (EF slope less than 20 mm/sec, mean left atrial size 3.0 cm/m2, mean anterior mitral leaflet excursion 25 mm) as well as typical mitral valve prolapse.
