A treatment of mixed mode fracture in debonding
Computational Materials Science, 1994Abstract A strength based fracture criterion is introduced to describe progressive cracking. Separate internal state variables for each principal failure mode ensure consistent treatment of Mode I, Mode II and mixed mode failure. In numerical examples mixed mode debonding is observed at a curved material interface whereas Mode I separation dominates ...

Practical structures are not only subjected to tension but also experience shear and torsion loading leading to a mixed-mode interaction. Correspondingly, the stress state ahead of a crack is frequently based on mixed-mode I/II type of interactions, which designate the amplitude of the crack tip stresses because of skew-symmetric loading.

Mixed-mode fracture of a lubricated interface
Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1992Abstract The fracture of an interface containing a liquid was investigated under nominally mixed-mode conditions. The experiments were designed to be a study of a model interface for which frictional effects are minimised. Alternatively, the system could be considered to provide an analogy for an interface along which there is little resistance to ...

Mixed-Mode Fracture of Solid Propellants
1998Abstract : This report describes an investigation into the mixed-mode fracture behavior of solid propellants. Experiments were performed at different mixed mode loading conditions at different temperatures and strain rates. The collection of data suggested that while the maximum tangential stress criterion was a reasonable indicator of the onset of ...

Mixed Mode Fracture for Notched Structures
2001This paper deals with the problem of mixed mode fracture. Elastic finite element analyses are described for circular rings containing a V-notch on the internal radius. The circular rings are subjected to a pair of unsymmetrical loads on the outside radius. With elastic analysis, the mixed mode stress field near the notch root is calculated.

Critical Stress in Mixed Mode Fracture
2003(a) For the geometry in Figure. 1, determine the direction of crack propagation according to the maximum tangential stress criterion of Erdogan and Sih [1]. (b) Sketch this direction on a figure. (c) Determine the critical stress at fracture, σcrit.

Mixed mode fracture energy of concrete
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1990Abstract An interpretation of the very complex failure mechanism in four point shear specimens of concrete is proposed. A size-scale transition between tensile strength failure and mixed mode crack propagation is demonstrated to occur. When the distance of the central supports is large, the tensile strength is overcome at the supports by flexure ...

Mixed Mode Fracture in Anisotropic Media
1976Tests were performed on straight-grained timber to give Mode I fractures in three geometries, and satisfactory K1 data were produced. Mode II tests were more difficult to perform, and the data correlated on a constant net section shear stress basis indicated some form of shear yielding failure. The mixed mode tests used tension specimens with the grain

Mixed mode interface fracture criteria
Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1990Abstract The shielding of the full effect of mode II and III for interface cracks in brittle materials is demonstrated to be very important such that proper interface fracture criteria need to be modelled. A method for comparison of different phenomenological fracture criteria is discussed and applied to an experiment for a polyimide/glass interface.
