CONVECTION AND MIXING IN GIANT PLANET EVOLUTION [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
The primordial internal structures of gas giant planets are unknown. Often giant planets are modeled under the assumption that they are adiabatic, convective, and homogeneously mixed, but this is not necessarily correct. In this work, we present the first self-consistent calculation of convective transport of both heat and material as the planets ...

Numerical investigation of laminar mixed convection in a square cross-sectioned cylindrical annular

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Engineering, 2020
Steady-state laminar mixed convection of Newtonian fluids in a square cross-sectioned cylindrical annular enclosure with rotating inner wall and heated top cover has been numerically analysed based on axisymmetric incompressible flow simulations ...

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

NUMERICALSTUDY OF MIXED CONVECTION FLOWIN ALID

open access: yesMağallaẗ Al-kūfaẗ Al-handasiyyaẗ, 2018
A numerical investigation of steady laminar mixed convection flow of a Copper-water nanofluid in a lid –driven cavity has been executed. In the present study, the left vertical and inclined walls are heated at constant temperature while the right ...

Winter Mixed Layer Restratification Induced by Vertical Eddy Buoyancy Flux in the Labrador Sea

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Numerical model studies have shown that the lateral buoyancy transports from eddies restratify the convection region in the Labrador Sea. However, restratification by vertical motion during and after convection has been underestimated.

Non-similarity solutions of radiative stagnation point flow of a hybrid nanofluid through a yawed cylinder with mixed convection

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2021
In this new-fangled research, the mixed convective stagnation point flow of a hybrid nanofluid over a yawed cylinder with radiation impact is considered.

Convective Mixing in the Mantle: The Role of Viscosity Differences [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1988
The fate of the subducted oceanic crust has been a subject of controversy since the hypothesis of plate tectonics was first proposed. There is now considerable evidence to support the mantle-mixing hypothesis according to which the subducted oceanic lithosphere is heated and softened and then becomes entrained in the convective flows in the mantle ...
