Stable and metastable orientationally disordered mixed crystals of the two-component system (CH3)(2) CCl2+CCl4

open access: yes, 2000
Orientationally disordered stable and metastable mixed crystals of the two-component system 2,2-dichloropropane ((CH3)2CCl2)+carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) have been characterised from crystallographic and thermodynamic points of view.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Coherent Optical Phenomena in Organic Mixed Crystals

open access: yes, 1976
We report observation of photon-echoes and self-induced transparency effects in molecular mixed crystals. These coherent optical phenomena were observed in the short-axis polarized transitions (1B2u ← 1Ag) of the large organic molecules tetracene and ...

Shape controllable synthesis of NdFeO3 micro single crystals by a hydrothermal route

open access: yes, 2014
Orthorhombic NdFeO3 (space group: Pnma) crystals with controlled morphologies and sizes were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The morphologies of the final products strongly depend on the concentration of alkali.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Structural features of the Cu2Gly2(D–Hoser)(L–Hoser) crystals

open access: yesMoldavian Journal of the Physical Sciences, 2010
The crystal structures of two polytypic modifications of copper (II) mixed compound with glycine and racemic homoserine were revealed and studied. The unit cells of the crystals of both modifications have identical metric and angular parameters: a ...

Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation
