Mixed dentition space analysis in Egyptian children

open access: yesPediatric Dental Journal, 2010
Abstract This study was done to examine the applicability of the Tanaka and Johnston and Moyers’ methods of prediction in Egyptian population and to develop a new prediction method for this specific population if necessary. A total of 325 Egyptian students 145 female, 180 male, mean age 14.4 years, SD±1.1 years were randomly selected from 10 ...

Cortical bone distribution in the human mandibular symphysis: Ontogenic and morphometric approaches in archeological context

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The human mandibular symphysis concentrates multiaxial loads during function and remodels throughout growth, but the precise mechanisms underlying cortical bone shape during growth remain relatively unexplored. Approaches based solely on thickness or external cortical contours provide only partial insights and do not capture the functional ...

Previously undocumented regional variability in crab‐eating macaque skull sexual dimorphism and its implications for biological and morphometric studies

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In a large sample of adult crab‐eating macaques, we quantified sexual dimorphism in size, shape, and covariance across the whole skull and among anatomical regions of the cranium and mandible. All regions showed significant mean sex differences, but the magnitude of size and shape dimorphism varied substantially.

APPROACHES IN CONDUCTING PRIMARY PREVENTION OF TENDENCY OF MAXILLARY CANINE IMPACTION IN THE LATE MIXED DENTITION. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Early diagnosis and prediction of potential maxillary canine impaction are of essential importance for the normal formation of dentition. The aim of this article is to present a protocol for primary prevention of potential maxillary canine impaction in ...

MicroCT reinvestigation of the only articulated fossil anostomid fish reveals synonymy of Arhinolemur Ameghino, 1898 and Megaleporinus Ramirez et al., 2017

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Arhinolemur scalabrinii† Ameghino, 1898 was originally described as a strepsirrhine primate (Mammalia) but has been recognized as an anostomid fish since 2012. It remains the only extinct anostomid species known from complete cranial material.

Oldest well‐preserved euprimate petrosal, from the early Eocene of India (Vastan Lignite Mine, Gujarat)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract An exquisitely preserved, isolated partial petrosal with associated fragmentary stapes is described from the Vastan Lignite Mine (Gujarat, India), dated to the early Eocene (~54.5 Ma). Several anatomical traits (e.g., large petrosal plate; posterolateral entry of the internal carotid artery to the tympanic cavity; bony tubes surrounding the ...
