Colours of urban selection: carotenoid‐based signals reveal divergent urban/rural evolutionary trajectories in two closely related passerines

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Urbanisation is a major driver of environmental change, reshaping ecological and evolutionary processes. Urban‐driven phenotypic differences are increasingly documented, but the underlying role of selection is still understudied. One pattern is the consistent reduction of carotenoid‐based plumage pigmentation in city birds.

Solid Particle Erosion and Predictive Modeling of Epoxy Composites Reinforced With Diatom Frustules

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the solid particle erosion process and predictive modeling workflow for diatom frustule‐reinforced epoxy composites, illustrating the test setup, erosion response curve, and filler‐matrix interaction. ABSTRACT This study examines the solid particle erosion wear behavior of epoxy composites reinforced with 5–20 wt% calcined ...

Landless peasants, soilless cultivation: British agricultural experimentation and intervention in post‐independence Iraq (1932–1958)

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
‘Greening’ is often depicted as an inherently benevolent practice, turning arid stretches of land into arable and fertile plots. However, by considering a longer history of place and taking archival records into account, such transformations are rendered more complex and, often, more fraught.

Implementing potential climate‐smart practices through diverse partnerships

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change is one of the greatest threats to society, negatively impacting agriculture and crop yields. Globally, agriculture is also one of the largest greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting sectors. Climate‐smart practices that are developed through diverse partnerships with scientists and practitioners are needed to decrease GHG emissions. We implemented

Truncation error analysis for the piecewise parabolic method

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This work provides a theoretical error analysis of the well‐established piecewise parabolic method for unforced linear advection problems with non‐constant velocity. Numerical results confirm that merely first‐order accuracy is obtained for deformational flows.

AI Guidelines for Sustainable Rural Development and Climate Resilience in Resource‐Constrained Regions

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) has begun to permeate the strategies adopted for rural development and climate adaptation, especially in those regions where economic and infrastructural constraints are most acute. Rather than offering mere technological panaceas, the current landscape reveals a mosaic of partial successes and persistent obstacles,

Dynamic Amorphous Composite Shells on 3D Printed High‐Entropy Alloy Enable Stable and Active High‐Rate Seawater Oxidation

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
To address the challenges of Cl− in high‐rate alkaline seawater oxidation, the amorphous hydroxide‐oxide composite shells are constructed by integrating SLM 3D printing cantor high‐entropy alloy and rapid mild anodic acid etching/reprecipitation. The grain‐boundary‐free amorphous shells undergo in situ reconstruction into NiFeCo oxyhydroxides active ...

Experimental Study on the Melting of Hydrogen‐Reduced Iron Ore Pellets in Electric Arc Furnace‐Type Slags

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
To realize fossil‐free steelmaking using hydrogen direct reduced iron (H‐DRI), melting operations must be fully understood and thereafter efficiently implemented. Lab‐scale experiments investigating melting progression of H‐DRI are combined with results from pilot‐scale electric‐arc furnace trials.
