Pathogenic Effects of Single or Mixed Infections of Eimeria mitis, Eimeria necatrix, and Eimeria tenella in Chickens

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2022
Avian Eimeria species vary in their replication location, fecundity, and pathogenicity. They are required to complete the development within the limited space of host intestines, and some synergistic or antagonistic effects occur among different Eimeria ...

MixedCryptosporidiumInfections and HIV

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
Mixed Cryptosporidium infections were detected in 7 of 21 patients with a diagnosis of rare Cryptosporidium canis or C. felis infections; 6 patients were infected with 2 Cryptosporidium spp. and 1 patient with 3 species. Mixed infections may occur more frequently than previously believed and should be considered when assessing cryptosporidiosis.

Effects of Poty-Potexvirus Synergism on Growth, Photosynthesis and Metabolite Status of Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Mixed virus infections threaten crop production because interactions between the host and the pathogen mix may lead to viral synergism. While individual infections by potato virus A (PVA), a potyvirus, and potato virus X (PVX), a potexvirus, can be mild,

Mixed Infections and Hybridisation in Monogenean Parasites

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Theory predicts that sexual reproduction promotes disease invasion by increasing the evolutionary potential of the parasite, whereas asexual reproduction tends to enhance establishment success and population growth rate. Gyrodactylid monogeneans are ubiquitous ectoparasites of teleost fish, and the evolutionary success of the specious Gyrodactylus ...
