From Measuring Land Use Mix to Measuring Land Use Pattern -- New Methods for Assessing Land Use

open access: yes, 2020
Land use mix is one of the central concepts in the urban planning field, though its measure has been found to have many fallacies. In this study, we propose multiple alternative methods to the Conventional Shannon Entropy land use mix index, which is generally employed to measure land use diversity.

Advancing Understanding of Land Use and Physicochemical Impacts on Fecal Contamination in Mixed-Land-Use Watersheds

open access: yesWater, 2020
Understanding mixed-land-use practices and physicochemical influences on Escherichia (E.) coli concentrations is necessary to improve water quality management and human health.

Quantification of Land Use Diversity in The Context of Mixed Land Use

open access: yesProcedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2013
AbstractMixed land use is one of the major factors affecting the non-motorized and public transport based trips, specifically for work purpose. Same is evident from various past studies on the interaction between land use mix and the travel behavior. Mixed Land use patterns are commonly observed in urban areas of developing countries like India. In the

Land use mix and physical activity in middle-aged and older adults: a longitudinal study examining changes in land use mix in two Dutch cohorts [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, 2020
Abstract BACKGROUNDWith urbanization and aging increasing in coming decades, societies face the challenge of keeping aging populations active. Land use mix (LUM) has been associated with cycling and walking, but whether changes in LUM relate to changes in cycling/walking is less known.

Surface Water (SW) and Shallow Groundwater (SGW) Nutrient Concentrations in Riparian Wetlands of a Mixed Land-Use Catchment

open access: yesLand
Precipitation patterns, water flow direction, and local land-use practices affect surface water (SW) and shallow groundwater (SGW) nutrient concentrations in riparian wetlands.

Routine activity effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on burglary in Detroit, March, 2020

open access: yesCrime Science, 2020
The spread of the coronavirus has led to containment policies in many places, with concomitant shifts in routine activities. Major declines in crime have been reported as a result. However, those declines depend on crime type and may differ by parts of a

Assessing CO2 Emissions from Passenger Transport with the Mixed-Use Development Model in Shenzhen International Low-Carbon City

open access: yesLand, 2021
Assessing transport CO2 emissions is important in the development of low-carbon strategies, but studies based on mixed land use are rare. This study assessed CO2 emissions from passenger transport in traffic analysis zones (TAZs) at the community level ...

Mixing of Land-use

open access: yesStudies in Regional Science, 1976
The remarkable aspect of urbanization in Japan is the rapid change of landuse, which is due to enlarging of urbanized area and renewing of city. The development of such change is almost never planned and is not uniformly and continuously carried out.

Integrated impact of urban mixed land use on TOD ridership: A multi-radius comparative analysis

open access: yesJournal of Transport and Land Use
The global trend toward urbanization has spurred the widespread adoption of transit-oriented development (TOD). While previous research has extensively explored the relationship between land use and TOD ridership, much of it has focused on linear ...

Landscape-scale drivers of mammalian species richness and functional diversity in forest patches within a mixed land-use mosaic

open access: yes, 2020
We estimated the influence of habitat fragmentation characteristics (patch size, isolation and number of neighbouring patches), habitat and land management types at the community level, specifically, on species richness, functional- α (alpha), guild- and
