Room Temperature Synthesis and Photopatterning of Mesoporous Titanium Dioxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A nanofabrication strategy combining deep‐UV photolithography with block copolymer self‐assembly enables direct patterning and mineralization of mesoporous TiO2 thin films at room temperature. Photocatalytic titanium oxo‐clusters promote polymer degradation under UV irradiation, enabling multiscale control over porosity, film thickness, and lateral ...

Measuring and modeling suspended sediment and nutrient yields in a mixed-land use watershed of the central United States [PDF]

open access: yes
Dissertation advisor: Jason A. Hubbart, Ph.D.Includes vita.Science-based information is needed to better understand mixed-land-use contributions of suspended sediment and nutrient loads to receiving water bodies. Water samples were analyzed for suspended

Mitochondria‐Specific Protein Delivery by Protease‐Triggered Release in Plants with Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Polymer‐coated carbon nanotubes were engineered as protease‐responsive nanocarriers for protein delivery in intact plants. GFP cargo can be released by cytosolic phytaspase cleavage and subsequently targeted to mitochondria via an N‐terminal sequence, enabling controlled intracellular protein delivery without tissue damage and demonstrating stable ...

Land Cover Change in Mixed Agroforestry: Shade Coffee in El Salvador [PDF]

open access: yes
Little is known about land cover change in mixed agroforestry systems, which often supply valuable ecological services. We use a spatial regression model to analyze clearing in El Salvador’s shade coffee–growing regions during the 1990s.

Teleporters, tunnels & time : Understanding warp devices in videogames [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Catchment land uses, particularly agriculture and urban uses, have long been recognized as major drivers of nutrient concentrations in surface waters.

Nanoporous Microelectrodes for Neural Electrophysiology Recordings in Organotypic Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The highly porous microelectrodes have been designed and printed on culture membranes, allowing to record electrophysiological neural activity for rodent brain slices. To keep the biocompatible nanoporous structure, the microelectrodes and insulative layer are fabricated on the bottom of culture membranes with only small connector pads added on the top.

Featured Graphic. How Mixed is Beijing, China? A Visual Exploration of Mixed Land Use

open access: yesEnvironment and Planning A: Economy and Space, 2013
The combination of a legacy of socialist urban planning and the more recently established market economy in Beijing, China, is likely to create a mismatch between urban land-use plans and actual land use. Before China’s economic reforms of 1978, Beijing’s landscape reflected a more egalitarian premise and was dominated by large parcels and single ...

The proximity of a field plot and land-use choice: implications for land consolidation [PDF]

open access: yes
Traditional methods in agricultural economics and agricultural engineering have yielded mixed results when specifying the costs of an unfavourable parcel structure.
