Surface mixed and mixing layer depths
Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 1995Abstract In order to understand the daily cycle of heat storage within the surface mixed layer it is necessary to distinguish between the mixed layer, the zone of relatively homogeneous water formed by the history of mixing, and the mixing layer, the zone in which mixing is currently active.

In this paper, we present a new technique that transforms a photo to an image that has mixed-media nonphotorealistic painted look. The important work that has introduced the technique of generating images that have hand painted appearance using curved brush strokes of multiple sizes is given by Hertzmann.

Continuum breakdown in compressible mixing layers
Physical Review E, 2022Gas-kinetic simulations of rarefied and compressible mixing layers are performed to characterize continuum breakdown and the effect on the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. The unified gas-kinetic scheme (UGKS) is used to perform the simulations at different Mach and Knudsen numbers.

The computational results for an unsteady mixing layer flow are presented. An implicit numerical scheme for the solution of the unsteady NS equations has been used in junction with an algebraic turbulent model. Computations were performed using both first and second order time accuracy.

We describe the performance of mixed-layer, small molecule organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) that are step-graded from a mostly hole transporting layer (HTL) to a mostly electron transporting layer (ETL) from anode-side to cathode-side, respectively. The devices are based on a green, electrofluorescent dopant and achieve luminous efficiencies of >

Despite important efforts of many scientists over the decades, turbulence continues to persist as one of the least understood field of fluid mechanics, and therefore much improvements in fluid flow systems are still expected from a better understanding of this physics.

The radial pressure gradient in combination with either a positive or negative radial gradient of angular momentum makes possible the realization of two dynamically different flows. When the angular momentum gradient is positive, the flow is stable; when it is negative, the flow is unstable.

Abstract A unified theory of frontogenesis in mixed layers is proposed. Analytical solutions of the nonlinear mass and density balances in a mixed layer are found in the Lagrangian frame for a wide class of entrainment parameterizations. These solutions show mixed-layer depth and density to be functions of particle position and separation, where mixing

Buoyancy is the dominant mechanism driving turbulence in a convective boundary layer. Such turbulence is not completely random, but is often organized into identifiable structures such as thermals and plumes (Young, 1988). Entertainment happens at a variety of scales: lateral entertainment by small eddies into the sides of thermals, and vertical ...

Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) diagnostics and highspeed, real-time digital image acquisition techniques are combined to map the composition field in a water mixing layer. A fluorescent dye, which is premixed with the lowspeed freestream fluid and dilutes by mixing with the highspeed fluid, is used to monitor the relative concentration of high-speed ...
