Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, 2006
By exposing the mu-receptor (MOP-R) to more than one exogenous ligand, the administration during general anaesthesia of more than one opioid with principal action on the receptor may confound and lead to complications or unexpected outcomes. The giving of such a ‘mixed message’ can result in respiratory depression, excess sedation and delayed recovery

Mixed results with mixed disulfides
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2016A period of research with Helmut Sies in the 1980s is recalled. Our experiments aimed at an in-depth understanding of metabolic changes due to oxidative challenges under near-physiological conditions, i.e. perfused organs. A major focus were alterations of the glutathione and the NADPH/NADP(+) system by different kinds of oxidants, in particular ...

Mixed Occupancy: Mixed Occupations?
2018In this chapter, we explore the types of employment and livelihood strategies witnessed on the estate. In doing so, we engage with debates over the changing occupational class structure of London in contending that although LG was a neat-enough microcosm of citywide trends in terms of inequality and professionalisation, because of the day-to-day ...

Abstract This study aims to explore to what extent the internalised racism based on black inferiority and white supremacy, as described in 1952 by Fanon in his Black Skin, White Masks, is still reproduced in the intimate sphere today, despite increasing diversification in Western societies.

Mixing Students Mixing Methods
2010This chapter describes an innovative interprofessional education (IPE) module delivered with a blended approach, incorporating face-face teaching and online problem based e-learning (PBeL) activities. This has been evaluated using qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative work provided an overall perspective on how students experienced IPE.

This article investigates the relationship between research methods and conceptions of causation in mixed-methods research. It begins by distinguishing the natural conception of causation from the intentional conception. Natural causation construes causal explanation as establishing and accounting for ordered patterns of human behavior on the model of

International Polymer Processing, 1995
Abstract A new mixing device, to be mounted on the tip of a single screw extruder, is equipped with a freely rotating ring. Its homogenising action is clearly understood and explained. In order to understand its dispersing action experiments have been performed in order to find proof of the presence of elongational flow.

The fertilizer industry — especially the compound fertilizer industry — offers a revealing case for studying the history of mixing tools. This industry emerged in the nineteenth century and developed during the twentieth century. As it grew, it evolved to meet the challenge of providing large volumes of low-cost fertilizer for intensive agriculture. In
