ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

Mixed-Mode Calculations in Nuclear Physics
The one-dimensional harmonic oscillator in a box problem is used to introduce the concept of a mixed-mode shell-model scheme. The method combines low-lying ``pure mode'' states of a system to achieve a better description in situations where complete calculations cannot be done and the dynamics is driven by a combination of modes.

Mixing thermodynamics of TM(1-x)Gd(x)N (TM=Ti, Zr, Hf) from first principles
The mixing thermodynamics of GdN with TiN, ZrN, and HfN is studied using first-principles methods. We find that while Ti(1-x)Gd(x)N has a strong preference for phase separation due to the large lattice mismatch, Zr(1-x)Gd(x)N and Hf(1-x)Gd(x)N readily ...

Objective The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal disease course and pulmonary outcomes of North American patients with melanoma differentiation–associated protein 5 (MDA5) antibody–associated dermatomyositis (DM). Methods Thirty patients with MDA5 antibody–associated DM were identified in a single‐center longitudinal cohort of 352

Retractions in Rheumatology: Trends, Causes, and Implications for Research Integrity
Objective We aimed to describe the trends and main reasons for study retraction in rheumatology literature. Methods We reviewed the Retraction Watch database to identify retracted articles in rheumatology. We recorded the main study characteristics, authors’ countries, reasons for retraction, time from publication to retraction, and trends over time ...

Indirect probes of new physics
We summarize the indirect effects of new physics in a variety of processes. We consider precision electroweak measurements, the g−2 of the muon, rare decays, meson mixing, CP violation, lepton number violating interactions, double beta decay, and the ...

New Onset of Fibromyalgia After Exposure to a Combat Environment: A Longitudinal Cohort Study
Objective Traumatic life events are hypothesized to be triggers for the onset of fibromyalgia. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common comorbidity of fibromyalgia. However, limited prospective data are available on the development of fibromyalgia after exposure to high‐magnitude stress.

Flavor Physics at the Tevatron: Decay, Mixing and CP-Violation Measurements in pp-Collisions
The book reviews the latest experimental results of charm and bottom flavor physics at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. The measurements of lifetimes, branching ratios and mixing properties of heavy flavored hadrons provide important constraints ...
