MLD relations of pisot substitution tilings [PDF]
We consider 1-dimensional, unimodular Pisot substitution tilings with three intervals, and discuss conditions under which pairs of such tilings are locally isomorhphic (LI), or mutually locally derivable (MDL). For this purpose, we regard the substitutions as homomorphisms of the underlying free group with three generators.

Masker bandwidth and the MLD [PDF]
Thresholds for binaurally in-phase (SO) and out-of-phase (Sπ) tones masked by diotic noise were measured as a function of noise bandwidth at 250 and 4000 Hz. Results show that the familiar dependence of the MLD for a tone in wideband noise on the frequency of the tone derives primarily from the dependence of critical bandwidth on frequency and only ...

Sustenance of phytoplankton in the subpolar North Atlantic during the winter through patchiness [PDF]
This study investigates the influence of two factors that change the mixed layer depth and can potentially contribute to the phytoplankton sustenance over winter: 1) variability of air-sea fluxes and 2) three-dimensional processes arising from strong ...

A closer look at ARSA activity in a patient with metachromatic leukodystrophy. [PDF]
Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disease mainly caused by a deficiency of arylsulfatase A activity. The typical clinical course of patients with the late infantile form includes a regression in motor skills ...

How do individuals with Williams syndrome learn a route in a real-world environment? [PDF]
Individuals with Williams syndrome (WS) show a specific deficit in visuo-spatial abilities. This finding, however, is mainly based on performance on small-scale laboratory-based tasks.

The contributions of domain-general and numerical factors to third-grade arithmetic skills and mathematical learning disability [PDF]
Explanations of the marked individual differences in elementary school mathematical achievement and mathematical learning disability (MLD or dyscalculia) have involved domain-general factors (working memory, reasoning, processing speed and oral language)

Automatic number priming effects in adults with and without mathematical learning disabilities [PDF]
This study examined automatic number processing in adults with mathematical learning disabilities (MLDs). The performance of adults with MLD during an automatic symbolic and non-symbolic priming task was compared to gender-, age-, and IQ-matched controls.

Optimizing Multiscale SSIM for Compression via MLDS [PDF]
A crucial step in the assessment of an image compression method is the evaluation of the perceived quality of the compressed images. Typically, researchers ask observers to rate perceived image quality directly and use these rating measures, averaged across observers and images, to assess how image quality degrades with increasing compression.

The role of local atmospheric forcing on the modulation of the ocean mixed layer depth in reanalysis and a coupled single column ocean model [PDF]
The role of the local atmospheric forcing on the ocean mixed layer depth (MLD) over the global oceans is studied using ocean reanalysis data products and a single-column ocean model coupled to an atmospheric general circulation model.
