This is a retrospective study of microlumbar discectomy (MLD), performed between 1983 and 1987. During that period, 60 patients underwent the procedure. At follow-up, after an average of 33.3 months, MLD provided excellent and good results in 93.3% of cases, fair in 3.3%, and failure in 3.3%.

Frequency Discrimination and the MLD
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972Binaural frequency difference limens in noise were obtained under homophasic and antiphasic conditions. Signal frequencies of 200, 300, 500, 700, and 1000 Hz were investigated at 5- and 10-dB sensation levels while 500 Hz was also explored at 15, 20, and 25 dB. The masker was a bandlimited noise with a spectrum level of 55 dB.

Whereas the masking-level difference (MLD) in children is similar to that found in adults for wideband masking noise, children often have smaller MLDs for narrowband noise maskers. One possibility is that the small MLD of children in narrowband noise is related to the pronounced amplitude fluctuation of the masker.

If he does, can this enzyme deficiency really explain his illness? For example, if one presumes that the enzymic defect is inborn, why did his symptoms not begin when he was a child?

MLDs in Forward and Backward Masking
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972Masking-level differences (MLDs) of substantial magnitudes were found in forward and backward masking situations. Their magnitude diminishes exponentially as the silent interval between signal and masker increases. Implications of the data for current models relating to the MLD are suggested.
