Approximate ML Detection Based on MMSE for MIMO Systems

PIERS Online, 2007
We derive two types of approximate maximum likelihood (ML) detection based on minimum mean squared error (MMSE), MMSE-CML (conditional ML) detection and MMSE- CLML (conditional local ML) detection, for MIMO communication system. A simple reliability judge rule to judge the estimate of the transmit symbols is also given.

An Approximate ML Estimator for Moving Target Localization in Distributed MIMO Radars

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2020
This letter deals with the problem of moving target localization in distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems using time delay (TD) and Doppler shift (DS) measurements. The proposed solution to this problem consists of two stages.

Approximate ML detection for MIMO systems using multistage sphere decoding

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2005
We derive a new multistage sphere decoding (MSD) algorithm, a generalization of the conventional sphere decoder (SD). This new MSD exploits that many higher-order signal constellations can naturally be decomposed into several lower-order constellations.

Gaussian approximation of the LLR distribution for the ML and partial marginalization MIMO detectors

2011 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2011
We derive a Gaussian approximation of the LLR distribution conditioned on the transmitted signal and the channel matrix for the soft-output via partial marginalization MIMO detector. This detector performs exact ML as a special case. Our main results consist of discussing the operational meaning of this approximation and a proof that, in the limit of ...

Approximate ML decoding of coded PSK with no explicit carrier phase reference

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1994
An approximate method is discussed for maximum likelihood estimation of coded PSK sequences in the presence of an unknown carrier phase. This method makes use of the Viterbi algorithm to find an optimum path in the encoder trellis diagram. Phase estimation is embedded into the structure of the detection algorithm and the branch metrics in the trellis ...

Approximate ML Serial Detector Based on Tomlinson-Harashima Pre-Equalization

VTC Spring 2008 - IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 2008
In this paper, we propose a novel and simple approximate maximum likelihood detector (A-ML-D) for single input and single output (SISO) systems over frequency-selective fading channels based on Tomlinson-Harashima pre-equalizer. By assuming full channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter side, the pre-equalizer can remove some inter-symbol ...

Design and implementation of digital fractional order PID controller using optimal pole-zero approximation method for magnetic levitation system

IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, 2018
The aim of this paper is to employ fractional order proportional integral derivative ( FO-PID ) controller and integer order PID controller to control the position of the levitated object in a magnetic levitation system ( MLS ), which is inherently ...

ML-based Load Value Approximator for Efficient Multimedia Processing

ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications
Approximate computing (AC) has gained traction as an alternative computing method for energy-efficient processing. This article proposes the exploitation of AC to address the memory wall. The proposed model predicts the memory load value using machine learning (ML).

Censoring Outliers in Radar Data: An Approximate ML Approach and its Analysis

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2019
This paper deals with the problem of censoring outliers in a class of complex multivariate elliptically contoured distributed radar data, which is a vital issue in radar signal processing applications, such as adaptive radar detection and space-time adaptive processing.

Pronunciation-Lexicon Free Training for Phoneme-Based Crosslingual ASR via Joint Stochastic Approximation

IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing
Recently, pre-trained models with phonetic supervision have demonstrated their advantages for crosslingual speech recognition in data efficiency and information sharing across languages. However, a limitation is that a pronunciation lexicon is needed for
