Multistatic Specular Meteor Radar Network in Peru: System Description and Initial Results

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2021
The mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) region is dominated globally by dynamics at various scales: planetary waves, tides, gravity waves, and stratified turbulence. The latter two can coexist and be significant at horizontal scales less than 500 km,

Beyond Mixing-length Theory: a step toward 321D

open access: yes, 2015
We examine the physical basis for algorithms to replace mixing-length theory (MLT) in stellar evolutionary computations. Our 321D procedure is based on numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations.

On the diurnal variability in F2-region plasma density above the EISCAT Svalbard radar [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2008
Two long runs of EISCAT Svalbard Radar (ESR), in February 2001 and October 2002, have been analysed with respect to variability in the F2 region peak density and altitude.

The Beneficial Effects of Melatonin Administration Following Hypoxia-Ischemia in Preterm Fetal Sheep

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2017
Melatonin (MLT) is an endogenous hormone that controls circadian cycle. MLT has additional important properties that make it appealing as a neuroprotective agent—it is a potent anti-oxidant, with anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Kelvin-Helmholtz billows and their effects on mean state during gravity wave propagation [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2009
The Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) billows which appear in the process of gravity wave (GW) propagation are simulated directly by using a compressible nonlinear two-dimensional gravity wave model.

Unusual Enhancement of Midlatitude Sporadic-E Layers in Response to a Minor Geomagnetic Storm

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
This study investigates the variations of middle and low latitude sporadic-E (Es) layers in response to a geomagnetic storm. Es layers are observed by five ionosondes located in the Eastern Asian sector.

MLT gravity wave climatology in the South America equatorial region observed by airglow imager [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2007
Abstract. An all-sky CCD imager for OH, O2 and OI (557.7 nm) airglow emission measurements was operated at São João do Cariri (Cariri), Brazil (7° S, 36° W), from October 2000 to December 2004. A large amount of image data, more than 3000 h of observation and around 1000 wave events, makes it possible to classify the gravity wave characteristics, which

On the MLT distribution of F region polar cap patches at night [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2007
Eight years of meridian scanning photometer data from Ny‐Ålesund, Svalbard have been analyzed to study the occurrence of F region polar cap patches at night. In total 333 patches in 43 days were observed to hit the poleward boundary of nighttime auroras which is a unique signature of ongoing tail reconnection.

Two-dimensional wind field observation based on multistatic meteor radars in central and eastern China

open access: yes地球与行星物理论评
All-sky meteor radars have become a reliable and widely used tool for observing horizontal winds in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) region. This provides vital data support for the study of dynamics in this region.

The Day‐Night Difference and Geomagnetic Activity Variation of Energetic Electron Fluxes in Region of South Atlantic Anomaly

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2020
Utilizing the DEMETER observations at 670 km, we examined the day‐night difference of energetic electrons (100–800 keV) in the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region and their dependence on geomagnetic activities in different seasons.
