MM5-HPAC simulation experiments

Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, 2005
We evaluate mesoscale model predicted boundary-layer flow and the subsequent HPAC (Hazard Prediction and Assessment Capability) dispersion computation. The HPAC software allows for prediction of the effects of surface release of hazardous material into the atmosphere and collateral damage on civilian populations using either observed or numerical ...

MM5 Contrail Forecasting in Alaska

Monthly Weather Review, 2005
Abstract The fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University–National Center for Atmospheric Research (PSU–NCAR) Mesoscale Model (MM5) is being used for forecasting the atmospheric layers of aircraft condensation trail (contrail) formation.

Parallel Optimization of the MM5 Adjoint Model

2013 IEEE 10th International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications & 2013 IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing, 2013
The PSU/NCAR mesoscale model (MM5) and its adjoint model are widely used in some fields of meteorology such as adaptive observations for tropical cyclone prediction. Although the parallel optimization is provided in MM5, the corresponding adjoint model has not been parallelized, which limits the widespread use of MM5.
