Dynamics of Coastally Trapped Disturbances Deduced from MM5 Simulations
1997Abstract : LONG TERM GOALS. We wish to advance the understanding of the interaction of a large-scale flow with complex terrain in the presence of a strongly stratified marine atmospheric boundary layer. OBJECTIVES. We wish to carry out a detailed diagnosis of coastally trapped disturbances (CTD's) along the California coast, to document and understand ...

An evaporation duct prediction model coupled with the MM5
Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2015Evaporation duct is an abnormal refractive phenomenon in the marine atmosphere boundary layer. It has been generally accepted that the evaporation duct prominently affects the performance of the electronic equipment over the sea because of its wide distribution and frequent occurrence. It has become a research focus of the navies all over the world. At

Forecast Model Uncertainty; MM5 Accuracy Over Utah
2004Abstract : Researchers are investigating various approaches to determine and portray weather forecast uncertainty. Methods requiring extensive computing power on the battlefield or massive data communications to the end user will not be implemented in the near future.

Ozone sensitivity analysis with the MM5-CMAQ modeling system for Shanghai
Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2011Ozone has become one of the most important air pollution issues around the world. This article applied both O3/(NO(y)-NO(x)) and H2O2/HNO3 indicators to analyze the ozone sensitivity in urban and rural areas of Shanghai, with implementation of the MM5-CMAQ modeling system in July, 2007. The meteorological parameters were obtained by using the MM5 model.

Evaluation of offshore wind energy potential using SAR and MM5
SPIE Proceedings, 2007Combined use of Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) onboard ENVISAT and the mesoscale model MM5 is proposed in this study to assess offshore wind energy potential. As far as the validation is concerned, 22 ASAR scenes are processed to estimate wind speed distribution by using CMOD4 and CMOD-IFR2 algorithms over Tanabe Bay, which is the target ...

The Error of MM5 System Prediction Used in Electromagnetic Environment
2007 International Symposium on Microwave, Antenna, Propagation and EMC Technologies for Wireless Communications, 2007The MM5 system works well in predicting parameters of atmosphere in mesoscale. We introduce this prediction system into electromagnetic environment of atmosphere researching field, in order to calculating refractive-index. In this paper, We compare the observed data and predicted data collected between November and December 2005, to show the capability

Advances in Radiation Forecast Based on Regional Weather Models MM5 and WRF
2010With growing installations of solar power plants and integration into the electricity grid there is a demand for forecasting the energy production on a short-term basis for the entire electricity management. Within IEA SHC Task 36, which ran from mid 2005 until mid 2011, METEOTEST made tests in the Alpine region with its operational numerical weather ...
