GPS PW assimilation into MM5 with the nudging technique

Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Part A: Solid Earth and Geodesy, 2001
Abstract We use a sub-set of European GPS network, equipped with surface meteorological sensors, to evaluate the impact of GPS precipitable water (PW) on the numerical weather prediction (NWP) model. GPS PW are assimilated into the PSU/NCAR nonhydrostatic model MM5 using both the Nudging technique and the Objective Analysis. The selected GPS network

Climate Variants of the MM5 and REMO Regional Climate Models

2016
As global-scale climate scenarios at high spatial detail are not yet available due to existing limitations in computational resources, regional climate models are often applied to allow fine-scale consideration of climate change at the regional scale.

An evaporation duct prediction model coupled with the MM5

Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2015
Evaporation duct is an abnormal refractive phenomenon in the marine atmosphere boundary layer. It has been generally accepted that the evaporation duct prominently affects the performance of the electronic equipment over the sea because of its wide distribution and frequent occurrence. It has become a research focus of the navies all over the world. At

The Error of MM5 System Prediction Used in Electromagnetic Environment

2007 International Symposium on Microwave, Antenna, Propagation and EMC Technologies for Wireless Communications, 2007
The MM5 system works well in predicting parameters of atmosphere in mesoscale. We introduce this prediction system into electromagnetic environment of atmosphere researching field, in order to calculating refractive-index. In this paper, We compare the observed data and predicted data collected between November and December 2005, to show the capability

Simulations of a rainfall process in Southeastern China with WRF and MM5

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
In an attempt to understand the relative strengths of two state-of-art mesoscale models: WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting Model) and Penn State/NCAR MM5, a nested domain was constructed to simulate a precipitation process induced by land-sea wind shear in Southeastern China with the two models.

Evaluation of Surface Fluxes from MM5 Using Observations

Monthly Weather Review, 1995
Abstract Direct observations of surface fluxes of momentum, sensible, and latent heat from towers and aircraft are compared to output from the NCAR-Penn State Mesoscale Model MM5. The model flux parameterization is seen to work well if appropriate values of the roughness length z0 and moisture availability parameter M are specified.

Performance Evaluation of MM5 on Clusters with Modern Interconnects: Scalability and Impact

2005
Clusters have become a crucial technology for providing low-cost high performance computing to scientific applications like weather prediction. In addition, networks like Myrinet, InfiniBand and Quadrics have become popular as an interconnection technology for high performance clusters.

[Degradation of oil derivatives by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus MM5].

Microbiologia (Madrid, Spain), 1994
This paper describes the isolation of microorganisms from polluted heating oil. The growth of one of them has been studied (Acinetobacter calcoaceticus MM5) in several linear and branched hydrocarbons as well as the effect of its growth on commercial diesel oil.
