Cellular responses to 8-methyl nonanoic acid, a degradation by-product of dihydrocapsaicin, in 3T3-L1 adipocytes

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, 2023
Background Capsaicinoids, such as dihydrocapsaicin (DHC), exert the health-promoting effects of chili peppers on energy metabolism. The metabolic responses to capsaicinoids are primarily mediated through transient receptor potential cation channel ...

The association between MNA and PG-SGA malnutrition assessment and the quality of life among hemodialysis patients

open access: yesClinical Epidemiology and Global Health, 2022
Background: The simple nutritional assessment tools by Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) and Patient Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG – SGA) was proposed to affect the Quality of Life (QOL) in hemodialysis patients.

Agreement between different versions of MNA [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of nutrition, health and aging, 2013
Malnutrition occurs frequently in the elderly with important clinical and functional consequences. Moreover, the treatment of malnutrition in the elderly may be effective if clinical and nutritional interventions are performed in the early stages. Therefore the early identification of the risk of malnutrition using validated and handy tools plays a ...

Calculation of the interspecies s-wave scattering length in an ultracold Na-Rb vapor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We report the calculation of the interspecies scattering length for the sodium-rubidium (Na-Rb) system. We present improved hybrid potentials for the singlet $X^1\Sigma^+$ and triplet $a^3\Sigma^+$ ground states of the NaRb molecule, and calculate the ...

Prognostic value of Mini Nutritional Assessment—Short Form with aortic valve stenosis following transcatheter aortic valve implantation

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, 2020
Aims Older adults at risk for malnutrition are known to have a high mortality rate. This study aimed to investigate whether the Mini Nutritional Assessment—Short Form (MNA‐SF) could predict midterm mortality in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic ...

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.

Comparison of the magnetic properties of GaInAs/MnAs and GaAs/MnAs hybrids with random and ordered arrangements of MnAs nanoclusters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 2010
Random arrangements of ferromagnetic MnAs nanoclusters were deposited on (111)B-GaInAs surfaces by standard metal-organic vapor-phase epitaxy (MOVPE). Ordered arrangements of MnAs nanoclusters and cluster chains were obtained by selective-area MOVPE on prepatterned (111)B-GaAs substrates.

Fingerprinting stress: stylolite and calcite twinning paleopiezometry revealing the complexity of progressive stress patterns during folding-the case of the Monte Nero anticline in the Apennines, Italy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this study we show for the first time how quantitative stress estimates can be derived by combining calcite twinning and stylolite roughness stress fingerprinting techniques in a fold-and-thrust belt.

Interplay of Backbone Conformation, Morphology and Thermoelectric Properties of Benzodifuranone‐Isatin Acceptor Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Modification of polymer backbone via halogenation and comonomer selection leads to conjugated backbones of different stereoelectronic properties, thin film morphologies, and electrical characteristics. The interplay of conformational isomerism, coplanarity, backbone curvature, backbone orientation, and ordering in thin films, electrical conductivity ...
