Data transmission for mobile radio

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 1978
During the last few years data communication has become important in the mobile radio services. This tutorial paper introduces the reader to the basic concepts of data transmission. Typical transmission channel configurations, various modulation methods, signal spectra, and bit error probabilities when transmitting data over a mobile radio channel are ...

The impact of mobile radio communications

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine, 1992
Future industry trends are discussed, using an analogy between the present and the industrial revolution. The scale of the industry is examined. Small conformal antennas are seen as key devices, since many antennas will come into use, and conventional antennas would spoil the beauty of the urban environment. >

Mobile Radio Diversity Reception

Bell System Technical Journal, 1969
This paper examines a particular kind of diversity system, under conditions of multipath fading, when there is interference from either random noise or from an unwanted station. The transmitter sends a pilot wave along with the modulated signal. The receiver's mixer stage heterodynes the signal with the pilot (instead of with a locally generated tone).

Mobile and HF Radio Systems

2003
This chapter describes precedence and preemption in Land Mobile Radio (LMR), the primary communications medium used by First Responders worldwide. It differentiates between implicit and explicit means for achieving precedence and preemption, and describes the situational variability in priority — a fundamental characteristic of public safety emergency ...

Analysis of cellular mobile radio

1997
Recent growth in the demand for wireless services has increased interest in queueing-theoretic models for cellular mobile radio systems. such models differ fundamentally from traditional teletraffic models because in cellular systems spatial structure is important. On January 27, 1995 Paul E. Wright from ATT this work will appear in [1].

Fifty years of mobile radio

Radio and Electronic Engineer, 1975
Marine mobile radio was a well established international service when the Institution was founded. Land mobile in contrast, was in its early conceptual stage. Pioneered just before and during the war, its large-scale development began in the 1950s. There are now 200,000 vehicles equipped in the UK alone but this represents less than 2% of all vehicles ...
