Mobile medics? The mobility of doctors in the European Economic Area

Health Policy, 2000
The Treaty of Rome seeks to generate a common European market whereby all barriers to the free movement of produce, capital, services and labour are removed. Current EU policy on the free movement of labour requires that healthcare workers, who are EU citizens and meet certain training criteria, have the right to register to practice in member states ...

Modeling pedestrian mobility in disaster areas

Pervasive and Mobile Computing, 2017
Abstract Realistic mobility modeling is necessary for testing disaster management strategies as well as performance of disaster–resilient networks. Evacuation of the people from a disaster area depends on the environment and type of the hazard which cause certain changes in the pedestrian flows.

Modeling mobility in disaster area scenarios

Performance Evaluation, 2009
This paper provides a model that realistically represents the movements in a disaster area scenario. The model is based on an analysis of tactical issues of civil protection. This analysis provides characteristics influencing network performance in public safety communication networks like heterogeneous area-based movement, obstacles, and joining ...

Transiting areas patrolled by a mobile adversary

Proceedings of the 2010 IEEE Conference on Computational Intelligence and Games, 2010
We study the problem of a mobile agent trying to cross an area patrolled by a mobile adversary. The transiting agent aims to choose its route so as to minimize the probability of hostile encounter; the patroller agent, controlling one or more patrol units, aims at the opposite.

Mobile multimedia metropolitan area network

2003 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking, 2003. WCNC 2003., 2004
This paper proposes a mobile multimedia metropolitan area network (MM-MAN) which provides IP-based VPN connections between mobile terminals on business activities around metropolitan area, and LAN in their own home office. To make VPN circuit handed over on cell-by-cell traverse, a VPN agent exists in MM-MAN access networks, and VPN server in each ...

Wide area localization on mobile phones

2009 8th IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality, 2009
We present a fast and memory efficient method for localizing a mobile user's 6DOF pose from a single camera image. Our approach registers a view with respect to a sparse 3D point reconstruction. The 3D point dataset is partitioned into pieces based on visibility constraints and occlusion culling, making it scalable and efficient to handle.
