For a long time, scholars regarded Mocedade's Rodrigo as a roguish youth, a far cry from the exemplary behavior embodied by the Cid of the Cantar. However, of late some studies have focused on Mocedades as embodying the typical rite of passage a young man must undertake from one age to another.
