Vibroacoustics of the piano soundboard : (Non)linearity and modal properties in the low- and mid-frequency ranges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The piano soundboard transforms the string vibration into sound and therefore, its vibrations are of primary importance for the sound characteristics of the instrument.

Damage monitoring in sandwich beams by modal parameter shifts: a comparative study of burst random and sine dwell vibration testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents an experimental study on the effects of multi-site damage on the vibration response of honeycomb sandwich beams, damaged by two different ways i.e., impact damage and core-only damage simulating damage due to bird or stone impact or ...

Correlating low energy impact damage with changes in modal parameters: a preliminary study on composite beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper is an experimental study of the effects of multi-site damage on the vibration response of a composite beam damaged by low energy impact. The variation of the modal parameters with different levels of impact energy and density of impact is ...

A new SSI algorithm for LPTV systems: Application to a hinged-bladed helicopter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Many systems such as turbo-generators, wind turbines and helicopters show intrinsic time-periodic behaviors. Usually, these structures are considered to be faithfully modeled as linear time-invariant (LTI).

Edge-induced radiation force and torque on a cylindrically-radiating active acoustic source located near a rigid corner-space

open access: yesJournal of Ocean Engineering and Science, 2019
This work examines the physical effect of the edge-induced acoustic radiation force and torque on an acoustically radiating infinitely-long circular cylindrical source, located near a rigid corner. Assuming harmonic (linear) radiating waves of the source,

Structural analysis and chracterisation technique applied to a CNC vertical machining centre

open access: yes, 2014
There is a requirement for improved 3D surface characterisation and reduced tool wear, when modern computer numerical-controlled (CNC) machine tools are operating at high cutting velocities, spindle speeds and feed-rates.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Finite element analysis of actively controlled smart plate with patched actuators and sensors

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
The active vibration control of smart plate equipped with patched piezoelectric sensors and actuators is presented in this study. An equivalent single layer third order shear deformation theory is employed to model the kinematics of the plate and to ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Integrating damping and non-linearities in a vibration design process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Classical vibration design uses modes and transfer functions generated with the superposition principle to allow the verification of design objectives.
