Readiness for modal shift in Scotland
Scottish Geographical Journal, 2004Abstract This paper examines the readiness for modal shift in Scotland from car use to more sustainable modes of transport. National statistics show the scale of car ownership and the extent of car use in Scotland. Findings from a number of recent studies are used to place car use in the context of other transport mode use, to examine reasons for non ...

Modal Choice, Modal Shift and Transport Safety
This thesis explored how changing transportation modes (modal shift) can reduce road safety fatalities and serious injuries (FSI). Four studies were conducted: The first estimated FSI across nine transport modes, finding public transport users at lower risk.openaire +1 more source
Modal particles and context shift
2013This chapter deals with expressive words, viz. German modal particles (MPs). The first part of this article discusses the nature of modal particles, followed by an analysis of the meaning of ja , doch , and wohl . Then, it introduces the phenomenon of context shift in general terms. The particles?

Cross-Modal Control of Attention Shifts
1998Abstract The study of the control of visual attention in space is one of the most exciting and rewarding directions of modern cognitive science re search, as the other chapters in this book amply demonstrate. However, the modern study of attention began in the auditory domain, and for many years much of what we learned about attention

An optimization modal for spectral shift estimation
2009 2nd Asian-Pacific Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar, 2009Multiple SAR images of the same area from slightly different slant angles show relative spectral shifts, which is used to improve the slant range resolution by combining their spectra. In the paper, an optimization modal, which maximizes the combined image's amplitude, is proposed to estimate the spectral shift.

Monetary Cost of a Modal Shift
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1998Placing an economic dollar value on the environmental impacts of shifting products from the waterway mode to a land mode is presented. Since the original study, completed in 1991, two of the three modal shift examples discussed have taken place. What caused the modal shifts to take place and their merits are also examined.

Modality Shifts in the Translation of Chinese Modality Markers
2018As discussed in Sect. 3.2.2, 15 Chinese modal forms are identified as high-frequency Chinese modality markers for the present study. Similar to the study of English modality markers, negative patterns (e.g., 不能, 不会) and noisy homonyms (e.g., 将 as a preposition, 需要 as a lexical verb followed by a nominal object) are discarded. In addition, compared with
