Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Cross-modal extinction in a boy with severely autistic behaviour and high verbal intelligence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Anecdotal reports from individuals with autism suggest a loss of awareness to stimuli from one modality in the presence of stimuli from another. Here we document such a case in a detailed study of T.M., a 13-year-old boy with autism in whom significant ...

Modality shift in design process : understanding the rationale behind modality shift and its effect on architectural design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Architectural design is a deliberate act of creativity without any definite starting point. Critical analysis of any design process reveals its basic stages. Designers use a number of design and drafting tools as well as their media (modality) to perform these processes.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Planning Approaches to Achieve a More Sustainable Travel Industry for Tourism in the UK - a Case Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Transport and Infrastructure Research, 2011
Transport is tourism's largest contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In the UK domestic tourism is dominated by car. The UK government is committed to a decrease in carbon emissions and to growing its tourism industry simultaneously.

Gamification design for motivating and measuring modal shift [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cities across the world attempt to minimise the negative environmental and wellbeing effects of increasing traffic volume and density. To this end, an increasing number of cities have taken to games and gamified applications to motivate mobility ...

Making meaningful comparisons between road and rail – substituting average energy consumption data for rail with empirical analysis

open access: yes, 2014
Within the transport sector, modal shift towards more efficient and less polluting modes could be a key policy goal to help meet targets to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Mobility on the Climate Test Bench: Rail Transport

open access: yesWirtschaftsdienst, 2022
Since the transport sector has been violating climate policy targets for some time, suitable transport policy measures are necessary to change this. A greater use of the railways always plays a prominent role in policy strategies.
