Watt-Level Diode-End-Pumped Self-Mode-Locked Tm,Ho:LLF Laser

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
A diode-end-pumped self-mode-locked Tm,Ho:LuLiF4 (LLF) laser is demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. At the incident pump power of 3.4 W, the stable self-mode-locked operation of the Tm,Ho:LLF laser was realized without any ...

Iteratively seeded mode-locking

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
Ultrashort pulsed mode-locked lasers enable research at new time-scales and revolutionary technologies from bioimaging to materials processing. In general, the performance of these lasers is determined by the degree to which the pulses of a particular resonator can be scaled in energy and pulse duration before destabilizing.

Noise in Passively Mode-Locked Lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
For the first time, phase fluctuations in the spectral intensity of the pulse train generated by passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers have been measured. The results reveal diffusion-like fluctuations of this phase.

Sub-100 fs watt-level Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb:CaYAlO4 laser with a gigahertz repetition rate

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
We report a 1.04 GHz high-power Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb:CaYAlO4 laser pumped by a single-mode fiber laser at 976 nm. Based on a bow-tie cavity, stable unidirectional mode-locked operation is obtained with an output coupler of 1.6%.

Generation of chirp-free picosecond pulses [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The frequency spectrum of moderately chirped laser pulses depends upon the portion of the beam which is accepted by the spectrometer. Observation of the development of the chirp in a mode-locked pulse train allows to determine the small incipient chirp ...

PT-symmetric mode-locking [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2016
Parity-time (PT) symmetry is one of the most important accomplishments in optics over the past decade. Here the concept of PT mode-locking (ML) of a laser is introduced, in which active phase-locking of cavity axial modes is realized by asymmetric mode coupling in a complex time crystal. PT ML shows a transition from single- to double-pulse emission as

Three-photon excitation of quantum dots with a telecom band ultrafast fiber laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate three-photon excitation in quantum dots with a mode-locked fiber laser operating in the telecommunications band. We compare spectra and intensity dependence of fluorescence from one- and three-photon excitation of commercially available ...

Mode-locking dissected [PDF]

open access: yesNature Physics, 2020
Despite the wide use of mode-locked lasers, no general theory for mode-locking exists. An attractor dissection approach provides some intuitive understanding of the complex dynamics in one type of mode-locking.

Graphdiyne for Ultrashort Pulse Generation in an Erbium-Doped Hybrid Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2019
An erbium-doped hybrid passively mode-locked fiber laser based on few-layer graphdiyne (GDY) saturable absorber (SA) has been investigated for the first time. Hybrid mode-locked fiber laser is composed of non-linear polarization rotation (NPR) technology

Stability calculations for the ytterbium-doped fiber laser passively mode-locked through nonlinear polarization rotation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate theoretically a fiber laser passively mode-locked with nonlinear polarization rotation. A unidirectional ring cavity is considered with a polarizer placed between two sets of a halfwave plate and a quarterwave plate.
