Mode-locked fiber lasers based on doped fiber arrays

Applied Optics, 2014
We designed a new kind of mode-locked fiber laser based on fiber arrays, where the central core is doped. A theoretical model is given for an all-fiber self-starting mode-locked laser based on this kind of doped fiber array. Two different kinds of fiber lasers with negative dispersion and positive dispersion are simulated and discussed. The stable mode-

Soliton mode-locked fiber laser for distance measurements

Applied Optics, 2021
Absolute distance measurement is crucial for many applications including metrology, large-scale manufacturing, range finding, and surveying. In this paper, a novel, to the best of our knowledge, technique is introduced for precise distance measurement by including the distance under measurement in a soliton mode-locked fiber ring laser (SMFRL ...

Mode locking in a fiber laser

Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1983
An investigation was made of the time structure of giant laser pulses emitted by a neodymium glass-fiber laser. Partial mode locking occurred within some mode groups. An explanation of this effect is provided.

Mode-locked Bi-doped fiber laser

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2007
Mode locking is obtained for what we believe to be the first time in a Bi-doped fiber laser. Stable 50 ps laser pulses with a pulse repetition rate of 13 MHz are generated at a wavelength of 1161.6 nm with a 2 mW average power.

Tm-doped mode-locked fiber lasers

Optical Fiber Technology, 2014
Abstract Ultrashort pulse fiber lasers are increasingly used in various areas for scientific as well as industrial purposes. In contrast to ultrashort pulse lasers based on ytterbium- and erbium-doped fibers, the dispersion of silica fibers in the amplification band of thulium-doped fibers around 2 μm is typically anomalous, which has fundamental ...

Stabilizing Harmonically Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

2007 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing and Communications, 2007
Applications of ultra short pulses in optical signal processing, communications and high speed electronics have grown rapidly in recent years. However, high stability of the generated pulses is of prime importance for these applications. This paper describes the quantitative stability analysis of optical pulses generated through passively mode locked ...

Passive mode-locked fiber ring laser

2010 Photonics Global Conference, 2010
In this paper, simulation of a classical passive mode-locked fiber ring laser model is given first to investigate the variation of the output parameters with different dispersion and nonlinear effects. After it, an experiment based on Carbon Nanotube (CNT) saturable absorber is carried out with a newly-developed device integrating multiple functions ...

Multi-wavelength mode-locked fiber laser

Proceedings of SPIE, 2006
In this paper, we demonstrate a novel stabilization scheme of actively harmonically mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber lasers (ML-EDFLs) by using highly nonlinear fibers in the cavity. 2 and 4 wavelengths anchored on ITU-T standards with 100 GHz channel spacing are successfully generated without gain competition. The amplitude fluctuation and timing jitter

Graphene mode locked ultrafast fiber lasers

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
We demonstrate experimentally that few atomic layer graphene possesses ultrafast, super broadband saturable absorption, which can be exploited to passive mode lock fiber lasers of different operation wavelengths. Passive mode locking performance of an erbium-doped fiber laser operating at the 1.55μm and an ytterbium-doped fiber laser operating at ...

All-fiber bidirectional passively mode-locked ring laser

Optics Letters, 2007
We report the design and operation of a novel all-fiber bidirectional passively mode-locked ring laser. An erbium-doped fiber was chosen as the active element in a ring cavity arrangement. A short segment of a fiber taper embedded in carbon nanotubes/polymer composite, acting as a saturable absorber, was used to enable bidirectional mode locking.
