Random Search Algorithm-Assisted Automatic Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers

open access: yesPhotonics
Automatic mode-locking is a crucial approach for achieving ultrashort pulses in fiber lasers. Here, a random search algorithm was developed, and an automatic mode-locked laser was constructed.

Birefringence-Induced Trains of High-Rate Pulses in a Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2009
The output of a mode-locked erbium-doped ring fiber laser incorporating a section of a polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber is investigated in both numerical simulations and experiments.

Dispersion-managed mode-locked Tm:ZBLAN fiber lasers

open access: yesOptics Express
We demonstrated a dispersion-managed 2 μm ultrafast laser based on Tm:ZBLAN fiber. By controlling intracavity net dispersion using passive fibers, we observed soliton, stretched-pulse, and dissipative-soliton mode-locked operations. In particular, the broadest output spectrum with a bandwidth at 30 dB below peak of 320 nm and a pulse duration of 61 fs ...

Dissipative soliton in actively mode-locked fiber laser

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
A dissipative soliton in an all-normal-dispersion actively mode-locked ytterbium-doped fiber laser is reported for the first time. Pulses with 10-ps duration and edge-to-edge bandwidth of 9 nm are generated, and then extra-cavity compressed down to 560 fs due to the large chirp. Widely wavelength tuning between 1031 and 1080 nm is achieved by adjusting

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.

Theoretical Comparison of NPR and Hybrid Mode-Locked Soliton Thulium-Doped Fiber Lasers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
The evolutions and properties of solitons in a thulium-doped fiber laser hybrid mode-locked by the coaction of nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) and a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) have been numerically investigated.
