Optically injected mode-locked laser
Physical Review E, 2011We study analytically and numerically a delay differential model of a passively mode-locked semiconductor laser subjected to a single frequency coherent injection. The width of the locking cone is calculated asymptotically in the limit of small injection and compared to that obtained by direct numerical integration of the model equations.

A mode-locked Nd:YAG laser is described which produces pulses 30 psec in duration at a 2.6 nsec repetition rate. The locking range extends over ≈35 GHz, although the free-running oscillating linewidth is only about 10 GHz. Also discussed is the behavior of the phase of the pulsetrain with changing cavity length.

Colliding pulse mode locked laser
Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2000The fabrication and performance of a colliding pulse-mode locked laser with an intracavity saturable absorber is described. The laser has a threshold current of 65 mA and differential efficiency of 0.04 mW/mA when coupled into a single-mode fiber. Mode-locked pulses with /spl sim/1 ps pulse width at /spl sim/10 GHz has been obtained.

SIAM Review, 2006
A comprehensive treatment is given for the formation of mode-locked soliton pulses in optical fiber and solid state lasers. The pulse dynamics is dominated by the interaction of the cubic Kerr nonlinearity and chromatic dispersion with an intensity-dependent perturbation provided by the mode-locking element in the laser cavity.

Passive Mode-Locking Techniques of Lasers
International Journal of High Speed Electronics and Systems, 1997In the frequency domain, mode-locking of a laser is to "lock" the relative phase of various iongitudinal modes in order to form pulses. In many applications, passive mode-locking is superior to active mode-locking because the former does not need any external active sources as required for the latter.

Application of a Mode-Locked Laser to Holography
Applied Optics, 1972A system that uses a mode-locked laser to record double exposure holograms of a rapidly changing object is described. A saturable absorber is used to mode-lock a ruby laser, producing a train of pulses of very short duration. Two of the pulses are selected by rapidly switching a Kerr cell shutter arrangement. When these two pulses are used to produce a

Passive mode locking with a hybrid laser
Summaries of Papers Presented at the Lasers and Electro-Optics. CLEO '02. Technical Diges, 2003It has been shown that a hybrid laser, which contains both an inhomogeneously broadened and a homogeneously broadened laser media, can improve the active mode locking performance.1,2 It generates coherent and shorter pulses as compared to that by either the inhomogeneously broadened medium or the homogenously broadened medium alone.

Mode-locked fiber laser gyroscope
Optics Letters, 1993We describe a new form of an all-fiber-optic gyroscope that utilizes a fiber laser. The Sagnac interferometer is used as a loop reflector with a modulated reflectivity to produce actively mode-locked optical pulses. The rotation-induced phase shift is obtained from the timing shift of the pulses.

Self-mode-locked Cr:forsterite laser
Optics Letters, 1993We have demonstrated self-sustaining operation of a mode-locked chromium-doped forsterite laser in which short-pulse formation is entirely due to the nonlinearity of the laser crystal. Stable pulse trains are generated for intracavity pulse energies from 35 to 120 nJ. Pulses less than 100 fs in duration are obtained over the range of 1.23–1.28 μm, with
