Design and Fabrication of Cylindrical Fiber Backplanes with 2T1C Pixel Circuits for Truly Wearable Woven Displays

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
This study develops a method to fabricate fiber‐based thin‐film transistor (TFT) arrays for active matrix applications. High‐mobility, low‐temperature TFTs overcome challenges such as thermal strain and surface roughness. An optimized TFT backplane design for cylindrical substrates enhances mechanical flexibility and environmental reliability, with ...

The clashing of in situ and pre‐cast technologies—Western trends and local traditions in concrete engineering shaping shell construction in 20th‐century Hungary

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract After a blossoming pre‐World War II (WWII) period, the concrete construction industry in then‐socialist Hungary existed in a relative isolation from the Western World during the mid‐20th century. In this paper, we focus on the body of work of one of the then newly established state‐owned design offices, IPARTERV, to show how the isolation ...

Sustainable Photochromic Wearables With Excellent Retention and Superior Stability for Customizable Patterns and Information Security Encryption

open access: yesSusMat, EarlyView.
A fiber‐based photochromic wearable is developed by covalently bonding MM nanoparticles with a sheath‐core structure into pristine cotton fabrics. The photochromic wearable exhibits remarkable fatigue resistance (>40 cycles), rapid light response, and outstanding color retention duration (>60 days).

International Lessons for Promoting Transit Connections to High-Speed Rail Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
As the California High-Speed Rail (HSR) project becomes reality, many communities involved in, or affected by, the California HSR project have considered how to connect the new HSR passenger services to local urban transportation systems – such as bus ...

Woodward and Hoffmann on Secondary Orbital Interactions. How to Make a Fine Two‐Course Meal from Leftovers**

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
In February through April 1965, Hoffmann devised several MO tools to explain the regiochemistry of the Diels‐Alder and the preference of the Cope reaction to proceed by the chair rather than boat orientations, when both were possible. The secret lay in secondary orbital interactions that were revealed through qualitative perturbation theory.

A neuromorphic system based on spiking‐timing‐dependent plasticity for evaluating wakefulness and anesthesia states using intracranial EEG signals

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Existing clinical approaches for assessing anesthesia depth often rely on physiological and behavioral indicators, which can be unreliable due to uncertain correlation with patient consciousness. This study presents a neuromorphic SNN with STDP, implemented on an field‐programmable gate array (FPGA) platform, enabling real‐time iEEG‐based assessment of

Reassessing the financial and social costs of public transport

open access: yes, 2014
This paper uses a previously developed spreadsheet cost model which simulates public transport modes operated on a 12km route to analyse the total costs of different passenger demand levels.

Why the WASPI has no Sting: Gender, Generation and Pension Inequalities

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Since 2015, Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) has campaigned tirelessly for ‘justice’ for the millions of 1950s‐born women adversely affected by the raising and equalisation of the state pension age (SPA). Yet, to date, no compensation has been paid.

SPORT‐RELATED GENTRIFICATION: Behind the Spectacle of Settler Colonial Urbanism

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Urban studies scholars and sociologists of sport have critically examined the production and consumption of world‐class sports spectacles that are constitutive elements of urban growth agendas and broader accumulation processes by dispossession.

URBAN AGRICULTURE AS A PLATFORM OF EVERYDAY GOVERNANCE: Case Studies of Policy and Practice in Three South Korean Community Gardens

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract In South Korea, urban agriculture (UA) was formalized through national legislation in 2011 and has since become widespread in cities across the country. More than ten years after the passage of the Act on Development and Support of Urban Agriculture, there is still little research examining the sociopolitical context in which UA is practiced ...
