In this paper, we present a series of machine learning approaches for better understanding people’s travel mode choice. The widely used Logit model is dependent on the assumption that the utility items are independent, violating this assumption caused ...

Discrete Choice Model of Agricultural Shipper's Mode Choice
Transportation Journal, 2013Abstract This article presents disaggregate mode choice model for shippers of agricultural freight. We have used disaggregated revealed preference (RP) data of grain movement from elevators to develop the model. The utility function includes attributes of the modes, attributes of the shippers, and interaction between the two.

This study examines a model of travel mode choice that is able to explain gender differences in the willingness to reduce car use. By means of a survey among 187 inhabitants of a German city, the hypothesis is tested that women are more willing to reduce car use (intention to reduce car use, preference for public transport, and actual travel mode ...

Factors Affecting Worksite Mode Choice
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2007Transportation demand management (TDM) programs at employer worksites have been used with varying success across the United States since the 1970s. The overall purpose of these programs is for employers to encourage their employees to commute in modes other than a single-occupancy vehicle.

International Journal of Physical Distribution & Materials Management, 1979
The choice of the transport mode is a fundamental part of distribution management which should be analysed carefully because of the impact upon a company's operational efficiency. Failure to identify the most appropriate transport mode may incur higher costs than are necessary and may provide a lower customer service level than is potentially possible.

A STATED PREFERENCE FREIGHT MODE CHOICE MODEL
Transportation Planning and Technology, 2003Transport policy aims to assist the transport system to work more efficiently and effectively. An understanding of the reasons why people choose to move freight in a certain manner is critical to the development of appropriate policies. This article outlines a data collection approach and the development of a disaggregate mode choice model applicable ...
