Component-Mode-Synthesis-Based Method for Structural Synthesis
1995In many engineering applications, selection of subcomponents for assembly into a useful structure is a more important design decision than modification of the detailed dimensions of individual subcomponent. Examples in the automobile industry include selection of strength members of the roof of a van to enhance buckling resistance or placement of ...

Improved component mode synthesis and variants
Multibody System Dynamics, 2012This survey focuses on the two known model order reduction schemes being widely integrated in various commercial finite element packages, namely, the static and dynamic condensation methods. The advantages as well as the corresponding drawbacks have been extensively analyzed in several papers throughout the last decades.

Component Mode Synthesis of Large Rotor Systems
Journal of Engineering for Power, 1982A scheme is presented for calculating the vibrations of large multi-component flexible rotor systems based on the component mode synthesis method. It is shown that, by a modal expansion of the elastic interconnecting elements, the system modal equation can be conveniently constructed from the undamped eigen representations of the component subsystems ...

Component mode synthesis for damped structures
AIAA Journal, 1987This paper formulates and investigates component mode synthesis methods for structures with the nonproportional symmetric damping matrix. The use of three different types of modes is discussed: complex free-free, cantilever, and hybrid. For ease of computation, the reduction transformation equations are expressed in real numbers with partitions from ...

Spurious results of the component mode synthesis
Computers & Structures, 1973Abstract The natural frequencies and mode shapes of a bentbeam in flexure-torsion oscillation are examined using the modal synthesis technique. The problem involves six boundary constraint conditions and the effect of ignoring a number of these conditions are examined. The choice of generalized coordinates offer other variations in the problem.

Intrinsic component mode synthesis and plate vibrations
Computers & Structures, 1992Summary: Component mode synthesis belongs to the class of Galerkin methods that enables one to compute the eigenpairs of a differential operator on a domain that can be subdivided into different subdomains on each of which the eigenpairs of the same operator are assumed to be known.

Convergence improvement for component mode synthesis
AIAA Journal, 1992Model order reduction by component mode synthesis relies on the truncation of high-frequenc y component modes. Such truncations inevitably lead to approximate solutions for the system frequencies and mode shapes. A technique is proposed to improve the accuracy of the computed system modal content.

Complex component mode synthesis for damped systems
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1995Abstract A general free-interface complex component mode synthesis (CMS), which uses truncated component complex modes, complemented with residual flexibility and inertia-relief modes, has been developed and allows assembly of a damped multi-component system with rigid and/or flexible interfaces.

Forced Structural Response Using Component Mode Synthesis
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper discusses the effects of omitting constraint modes corresponding to applied loads in systems modeled with component mode synthesis. A method of correcting for the omitted constraint modes is also developed.
