Inter-Modal Raman Amplification in Space-division Multiplexed Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We theoretically analyze and experimentally demonstrate the possibility of amplifying optical signals in an unrepeatered mode-division multiplexed tranmsmission system, through inter-modal stimulated Raman scattering process between signal and pump beams coupled onto distinct modes of a few-mode graded-index optical fiber.

Shared-Protected Backup Paths Assignment with Mode Group Division Multiplexing in Optical Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We evaluate the resource efficiency of Mode Group Division Multiplexing (MGDM) with shared path protection (SPP) in optical networks. On our case studies, SPP with MGDM obtains significant savings in terms of both additional backup spectrum occupation and MIMO-computing resources compared to other few-mode-transmission scenarios.

Transparent dielectric metasurfaces for mode modulation and spatial multiplexing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Expanding the use of physical degrees of freedom to employ spatial multiplexing of data in optical communication is considered the most disruptive and effective solution to meet the capacity demand of the growing information traffic. Development of space-division-multiplexing methods stimulated research on spatial modulation, detection and processing ...

A Microfluidic Multiplex Sorter for Strain Development

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A new multiplex method for high‐throughput screening of yeast strains based on glucoamylase production is presented. Droplets containing single mutant yeast cells are incubated for enzyme production. A sorting platform divides mutants by their high‐ and mid‐activity levels.

Digital Domain Power Division Multiplexed Dual Polarization Coherent Optical OFDM Transmission [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Capacity is the eternal pursuit for communication systems due to the overwhelming demand of bandwidth hungry applications. As the backbone infrastructure of modern communication networks, the optical fiber transmission system undergoes a significant capacity growth over decades by exploiting available physical dimensions (time, frequency, quadrature ...

Linearly polarized vector modes: enabling MIMO-free mode-division multiplexing.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
We experimentally investigate mode-division multiplexing in an elliptical ring core fiber (ERCF) that supports linearly polarized vector modes (LPV). Characterization show that the ERCF exhibits good polarization maintaining properties over eight LPV ...

Transcript Identification Using Arrayed Hydrogels With TrapFISH

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
TrapFISH is a novel method for high‐throughput single‐cell transcriptomics. It embeds cells in hyaluronic acid hydrogel beads and uses probe hybridization to quantify custom gene panels. By arraying hydrogels in microfluidic devices, cell barcoding is removed, enhancing scalability for studying cellular heterogeneity and rare cell states by targeting ...
