Few-Mode TDFA for Mode Division Multiplexing at 2µm
2014 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2014We report the first demonstration of an inline two-mode group thulium-doped fiber amplifier (TMG-TDFA) operating at 2µm for mode-division multiplexed transmission. Similar gain and noise figure performance are obtained for both spatial modes under cladding-pumped operation.

Few-mode optical fiber for mode-division multiplexing
Optical Fiber Technology, 2011Abstract This paper describes the group delay difference and mode coupling of few-mode fiber for “uncoupled” mode division multiplexing. Optical mode separation is compatible with few-mode fiber. It has complementary characteristics with the MIMO technique.
