Side-tap modal channel monitor for mode division multiplexed (MDM) systems

We demonstrate a sidetap modal channel monitor based on a tilted Bragg grating, where different modes radiate at different angles. We qualitatively correlate the observed modal power partitioning with more accurate interferometer-based measurements.

Mode division multiplexed (MDM) waveguide link scheme with cascaded Y-junctions

Abstract A potentially high throughput waveguide mode multiplexer/demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) exemplified by two cascaded Y-junctions is shown to be capable of efficiently transforming modes from single mode waveguides into a two-dimensional set of the orthogonal ones in a multi-mode waveguide, and back.

Abstract (40-Word Limit): We demonstrate the first MDM scheme using OAM states over 1.1 km of fiber enabled by a SLM-based mux/de-mux scheme and a specialty fiber. Subsystem was used to successfully transmit data at 400 Gb/s (4-modes, 50 GBaud QPSK, 1550nm).
