Reprogrammable multi‐material smart textiles knitted from liquid crystal elastomer fibers undergo 2D and 3D deformation under thermal and photo stimuli. Circularly knitted tubular structures reversibly contract in radial and axial directions, enabling autonomous climbing, liquid release, and micro pumping.

3-D Mixed Mode Delamination Fracture Criteria - An Experimentalist's Perspective [PDF]
Many delamination failure criteria based on fracture toughness have been suggested over the past few decades, but most only covered the region containing mode I and mode II components of loading because that is where toughness data existed.

Mechanochromism of Glassy Polymers Enabled by a Loop‐Forming Supramolecular Mechanophore
The supramolecular mechanophore LOOP is covalently introduced into glassy polymers, capable of reporting force‐induced pre‐failure damage and local fracture events in polymer glasses. Under different mechanical deformation modes, including grinding, tensile stretching, and scratching, LOOP probes irreversible events in polymer glasses through a ...

Investigation of fiber bridging in double cantilever beam specimens [PDF]
The possibility to eliminate fiber bridging or at least to reduce it, and to evaluate an alternative approach for determination of in situ mode 7 fracture toughness values of composite matrix materials were investigated.

An elastic mixed-modes I and II fracture criterion using an artificial neural network database [PDF]
Many thin structural elements such as various parts of fuselage, tubular supports in oil/gas off-shore platforms, etc may fail under the mixed-modes I and II fracture. Although there are a number of criteria for the mixed-modes I and II fracture, none of

About the impact behavior of woven-ply carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic- and thermosetting-composites: A comparative study [PDF]
This study is aimed at comparing the response of TS-based (epoxy) and TP-based (PPS or PEEK) laminates subjected to low velocity impacts. C-scan inspections showed that impact led to diamond-shaped damage resulting from different failure mechanisms ...

Tough Injectable Hydrogels Enabled by Integrating Rigid Homogeneous Framework With Flexible Chains
Tough injectable hydrogels are constructed by integrating a rigid, homogeneous hyaluronic acid framework with flexible long‐chain connectors. This framework–flexible structure simultaneously enhances network uniformity and promotes effective energy dissipation by enlarging plastic deformation zones under compression.

Elevated-temperature impact toughness of Mg–(Gd, Y)–Zr alloy [PDF]
The Charpy impact results for Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr and Mg–11Y–5Gd–2Zn–0.5Zr alloys at various temperatures showed that Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr was more sensitive to temperature. The increase in impact toughness with temperature was related to the blunt crack-tip at
