Combined Mode I and Mode II Fracture of Monolithic Ceramics
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1993The mode I, mode II, and combined mode I–mode II fracture behaviors of a coarse‐grained silicon nitride, a fine‐grained silicon nitride, and an alumina were investigated. These ceramics were fractured from two types of fracture initiating flaws: small surface flaws and large single edge precracks.

Mixed Mode II-Mode III Fracture of Adhesive Joints
Journal of Composites Technology and Research, 1995This paper presents approximate closed-form expressions for the local energy release rate in Mode I, Mode II, and Mode III along the idealized straight crack front of a cracked generalized adhesive joint. Mode I and II fracture of adhesive joints
The Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 1984The compliance method is used to determine strain energy release rates in mode I and II fracture of adhesive bonded joints. A strong dependence of the strain energy release rates upon the adhesive thickness is found. Standard compact tension and compact shear specimens are used.

Mode II fracture toughness of stitched composites
19th AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 2001Currently End Notched Flexure (ENF) specimens are used to determine the effect of stitching on the Mode II fracture toughness of laminated composites. In ENF tests the delamination does not open, but slides. This makes it difficult to locate the crack-tip as the crack propagates and hence to estimate the length of crack propagation.
